In today’s segment of news that isn’t news, we have this gem - Grand Theft Auto V](http://www.autoblog.com/tag/grand+theft+auto+v/) is a huge hit. Just how successful is the new sandbox title from Rockstar Games? It took in $800 million during its first global day of sales, crushing the $500-million, first-day record set by Call of Duty: Black Ops II, which was released last November.

According to Edmunds](http://www.edmunds.com/car-news/grand-theft-auto-v-rakes-in-over-800-million-in-one-day.html), that works out to anywhere from 10 to 12 million copies on day one. The controversial, open-world game features three protagonists and allows players to commandeer everything from a fighter jet to a jet ski to a range of cars based loosely around production models, all while wielding a veritable arsenal of weaponry. Our review of GTA V is being compiled (we’ve got a staffer locked in a basement, on the job) as of this writing, and will be delivered to the Autoblog front page soon.Grand Theft Auto 5 breaks records with $800M first-day tally originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 19 Sep 2013 17:30:00 EST.
