Rental Car in Karachi

Does anyone know of a good source to get a reliable rental car with driver for a reasonable price in karachi. I am planning a trip in December to Karachi with family and I want to rent a car for about a month.

I have same question. Anyone can please help?

http://www.hertz.com/adframes/special_offers/adframeset.jsp?ad=pakistanfreepetrol

hertz is offering free fuel tank in pakistan as well!!

and AVIS as well

apart from above you can just go and rent it, there are many places now you can rent about 20000 PKR to 40000 PKR per month depending on make and model of the car.

Thanks a bunch. Rates are higher than what I expected.

wow the rates r high...at this rate u r better off taking a cab if u dont mind that mode of travel..

i dont have any personal experience in renting cars and neither does anyone i know...but these agencies AVIS etc r much more expensive than like a small repair garage..u shud ask around when u get here, check with some car repair shops...

i think theres some places at the airport too for car rental, not sure, but they r prolly the same expensive ones

When I went in May04 I booked the car (1995 toyota w/AirCon) with a driver for couple of week @1500 Pak Rupee/day incl. petrol (12 hours per day from 9am-9pm). I beleive you will be able to get similar deals quite comfortably.

You should be able to (...infact you Must) haggle for a better price as you will b booking for a month.

Unfortunately, i can not remember the company or their phone number to provide you with.

Do they have radio taxi service in Karachi besides from Airport? Cuz I don't think that I am going to need a car and driver all day long.

Yes, they do.... I used the one called CityCabs. Rather nice cabs/service may I add !. Ofcourse cost a lil bit more than regular ones.

Again Phone number can b obtained when u get there.

ok when i went to pakistan, i wanted to rent a car..so my cousins took me to hertz....i wanted to rent a benz but due to safety reasons i got stuck with brand new suzuki alto or something like dat. It was a 4 door hatchback, and a dedicated driver for $13,000 ruppies per month. I couldve gotten it cheaper by hiring some taxi driver with his taxi for like 5-6k but i ended up staying with hertz. It was very good, the driver acted as my tour guide for karachi, and showed me around. I think the service of hertz was very good, there were 2 times they took my car for tune up and service and i had no problem.

prices are higher cause both of these are multinational companies. so what can you expact, atleast online booking and reliable service.

but you can get cheaper to these rates if you hire from any car rental or car show rooms mostly offer hire as well.

what's up with this driver business... can't you get a car and drive yourself? err... I know the driving conditions aren't the safest for a new driver, but still is that an option?

I'd be very uncomfortable going around places with a driver... sometimes you need the privacy... at times you wanna take your time at a vacation spot and not worry about somebody waiting for you etc.

Yeah I got a quote from avis in Karachi for Honda city (smaller than civic) for freaking $200 for 3 days. It is expensive even by American standards. What are they thinking?
Umar, if you have already driven car in Karachi than it’s not hard to do it again, but for lots of foreigners it is impossible. Sometimes you have to secrify your privacy over safety.

then dont go for that at all. its expensive, you can get about 40000 PKR for a month of car rental for civic or corolla. that price I was qouted in Lahore recently and without a driver.

best thing go there and take a local with you or you make sure they think you are a local guy and dont charge more. do some bargaining and it will work.

40,000 is alot of money for renting a car!

Point taken, but having a driver means no worries about finding parking - believe me in certain areas it can be a real pain. Also no stress from driving. 3rdly, not everyone, specially visitors, knows the roads and how to get from A-B.
No hassles about filling up, checking fluid leves, etc. Need to evaluate advantages / disadvantages of w- w/o driver.

:crying:

Ok, I posted this message last year. I did go to Karachi for about a month in December last year and was able to rent a brand new civic with a driver. It was a local car company that my Dad used back home from a local newspaper. I was very happy with the service. They charged 1100 PKR/per day. I paid for the gas as well as his meals while he was with me. There were quite a few wedding parties when he was on duty until very late at night, sometimes all night. If anyone is interested PM me and I can ask my Dad about their phone number.

insured?

All five star hotals provid the rent a car service

Does Karachi have much in the way of 5* hotels or a tourist infrastructure?
