Suppose you are living in a country other than your country of birth and you are acquiring a citizenship of your new country and does that affect your relationship with your kiths and kins back home in anyway?
Re: Reneging citizenship…
i dont think it effected our relationships in anyway other than the distance, on hindsight yes it does you get treated like royalty when you go to pakistan
okay i am confused. But i guess it does :k:
Re: Reneging citizenship…
yes of course it affects your relationship!!!
THEY consider you an outsider! They think as an outsider - “phorener”
you have MORE money than them. Their expectation of you changes - because now you are “Amrican”. If you have kids - then they are bigde hue …
so you see - just by acquiring a different level of citizenship status - you have already changed all your risthta’s ![]()
why are you concerned?
Re: Reneging citizenship........
I agree with NJ. Instead of the American, I would add British there. They do treat you differently and my cousins in Pakistan whenever I go they treat me like crap. They expect things from me, we go out shopping and they expect me to buy them for them because mai bahir se ayi hoon and my wallet has a lot of money in it. Plus they make fun of your english and urdu/punjabi.
Re: Reneging citizenship........
hahaha... so, its the people back home who always change and not you guys? :D
Farangi, this is a self-help forum for disillusioned pakis. Are you surprised at our accounts of trauma?
Re: Reneging citizenship........
nope, NOT at all but i know that over the coming decades thsi bondage is going to be weakened and ultimately disappear...i don't think my 3rd or the fourth generation wud want to go back home to see distant cousins...thats the downside of all this :(
Re: Reneging citizenship........
