A qualified medical worker from India emigrated to Canada to live a better life.
This Muslim brother had a beard. He applied to many different places for a job
and was called for interviews. Though he was highly qualified for the jobs, the
interviewers hesitated to hire him because of his beard. One by one, he was
rejected from all the companies. One interviewer actually mentioned to him
indirectly that his beard was an obstacle to getting the job. Trully, it was a
big test for him from Allah. Hopeless and exhausted, the brother decided
to
remove the obstacle, which was to shave off his beard. Then he returned to that
company and requested for another interview. When the interviewer saw him
without a beard this time, he refused to give him the job again. The brother
became confused and asked to know the reason. The interviewer said “If you are
not faithful to your God, how will you be faithful to us?”
This true incident was narrated to us by a friend who personally knows this
brother, however, his identity will remain private. In reality, obeying
the
commandments of Allah does not bring failure. In the beginning, we may face
various problems, but the end results will be very sweet. Prophet of Allah
(SAW) also faced many problems in the beginning, but in the end, he saw how
hundreds and thousands of people turned towards Allah for his steadfastness. Ibn
'Umar, may God be pleased with him, said: “The Messenger of Allah, may Allah
bless him and give him peace, ordered us to trim closely the mustache and leave
the beard as it is (that is grow the beard).” (Reported in Sahih al-Bukhari and
Sahih Muslim.
But the lioness does not wear the hijab to indicate the difference. Do you really need God to tell you how to distinguish between male and female? Is there anything you can figure out by yourself?
Allah “swt” has given every animal instinct to look after itself…However, it is instinct, not the ability to think…
Man has been endowed with the ability to think…That ability can either direct him to the loftiest ideals of man, or the its lowest point…it’s all how you use it…
Allah :swt: tells us how to best guide that thinking…
So the answer is yes, we can think for ourself, but is it always for the better?
Wouldn’t you rather ask a cop for directions than a blind man?
The Japanese had a saying, The mind is like a wild horse…Left to its own devices it will roam wherever it wants without a rein."
Our rein is our faith…Islam, which keeps our mind focused to always strive to better ourselves…
Wouldn't you rather ask a cop for directions than a blind man?

I would rather use my brain (which God went through a lot of trouble to make) to figure out how to distinguish between male and female or how to clean after relieving myself. I look to God for my spiritual questions.
Just curious, Sadya... Do you believe all the forwarded emails you receive to be true and the wishes of God? There are Muslims (and obviously non-Muslims) who will not agree with all these emails and if posted here, they will discuss. This is a discussion board, therefore you can expect people to discuss what you post. If they prefer to read and not discuss, they could sign up for email lists like the one which you receive.
aw. Don’t worry Sadya. It seems half of the people who visit this Forum, do so exclusively to get a kick out of putting others down. i think it’s their second job.
Please don’t let that discourage you from posting more threads in this Forum. At the end of the day, subsequent to discussing and arguing about issues like these and others, we’ll all move on from the argument, hopefully with a little more knowledge. Please keep posting in this Forum; you are one of the few thoughtful Guppies here, in my books.

I agree, please don't stop posting threads like these. You are obviously sincere and wish to express your faith while learning more about it. I enjoy reading your posts. But don't be surprised or disheartened when people disagree or question your posts.
i can speak from personal experience, it's hard sometimes not to become disheartened after successively reading a few 'ignorant' replies. But i wholly understand where you are coming from.
That's kind of you. It was just surprising to see an argument coming from a just a story with a moral, but I guess you're right, this is a discussion board, and of course not eveyrone has to agree with these views. And I don't believe everything I read, no. Not even forwarded. But this was an old message from an emailgroup I signed up to, not forwarded to me, but I got it from the archives of our group and I liked it.
If I would have asked to start a discussion, if a beard is necesary or not, it would have been different, but this was just a story with a little moral in it to read.
So I was surprised and I guess overreacting again...
