Former Hindi and Marathi film actress Usha Kiran, who mesmerized filmgoers with her versatile portrayals in movies like “Patita” (with Dev Anand) and “Musafir,” died of cancer in Nasik, Maharashtra on Thursday.

Condoling he death, thespian Ashok Kumar said, “I am sad to hear about her death.
She was a versatile actress and a good friend.”

I remember her in a few Marathi movies…at the time when good Marathi movies were made. As of now, Marathi cinema is dead — couldn’t compete with Hindi movies

I would like all Serious Cinema lovers especially from Pakistan to watch Indian Cinema (Regional) and not just Bollywood films. Some of the films made in Bengali, Marathi, Malayalam, Kannada, Tamil and Telugu are excellent films. Many are subtitled in English and very thought provoking. Pakistanis should not judge Indian movies just on Hindi/Bollywood films.

Any Pakistani who has liked non-Hindi films.

I would like to recommend few regional films

Pather Panchali (Bengali)
Nayagan (Tamil)
Shankarabharanam (Telugu)
Meghe Dhaka Tara (Bengali)
Bhavni Bhavai (Gujarati)
Chemmen (Malayalam)
Sinhasan (Marathi)
Charulata (Bengali)
ELippathayam (Malayalam)
ThaiSaheb (Kannada)
Umbartha (Marathi)
Ghattashraddha (Kannada)
Jalsaghar (Bengali)
Bariwali (Bengali)
Aakreit (Marathi)
Kairee (Marathi)
Chidambaram (Malayalam)
Pinjara (Marathi)
Oka Oorie Katha (Telugu)
Aakrosh (Hindi)

and many more. These are available on video casettes.

Its a pain to watch a movie with subtitles...however good it may be. The only film I liked with subtitles was Roberto Benigni's "Life is Beautiful" !
