Remembering a technocrat who is responsible for Pakistan’s economic decline
Who was this mysterious man? Well he came from USA on the invitation of our PM. Even though he lived and died in a free-market economy, his only gift to Pakistan was a pathetic set of socialist policies.
It was he who convinced our elected PM, that socialism is good for Pak economy.
It was he who fooled our PM into nationalizing our schools, banks, and industry.
I guess by now you probably can figure our the mystery socialist technocrat. OK at least you can figure our PM who ended up implementing all these ill-advised policies thus totally ruining Pak economy.
Yes the PM was none other than Zulfi Bhutto. But who was this US-imported rabid socialist?
Any guess?
Anyone?
Well this socialist was Doctor Mehbubulhaq. May Allah forgive his sins.
He is the one who coined this gad-awful theory called “Baa-ees Khandan” (22 families) and concentration of wealth.
Bhutto the self-proclaimed Islamic-socialist (whatever hell that is!) took the suggestions of UlHaq and guess what?
Pakistani banks went down the tube,
Pakistani industry became bloated with Babboos & Unions and quickly died.
and worse of the worst!
Our schools and universities became pathetic bunch of buildings that produced nothing but some petty-baboos.
The so-called army dictator Ayub Khan put our industry at par with the best developing countries in the world.
The so-called elected Bhutto brought that industry down to the Indian levels. Sad indeed!
So when we express our sorrows about the doldrums of Pak economy, always remember that socialist technocrat. The good Doctor!
