It's not about support. It's someone you can "spend" the good and not so good moments of your life with. Right now, you may not feel the need for a partner since you are young and have plenty of friends and family members at home. But think about 30 years from now. All your siblings will be busy in their own lives, parents will be in real old age if life permits and your friends will be busy with their families. That's the time when you will NEED (may be not want) a partner. So, that's why widowed people start thinking about re-marrying after a reasonable amount of time has elapsed since the death of their spouses.
