Does Islam recognize Sufism?
no
yahudi depends who you are asking and what you mean by sufism. Many people think of sufis and some charas smoking hippies, whereas they are mystics who have led by example and made a great impact.
islam does not recognize shia, sunni, deobandi, barelvi, wahabi and what nots either. Islam recognizes muslims, but people are quick to label everyone else as not recognized while forgetting that giving their own lil group a diff name is kinda wrong.
Sufism is much different from fundamentalist islam. Therefore fundamentalists especially wahabies and ahmedies especially condemn it. In fact without sufism, there would be no as much widespread islam present in this sub continent. Early sufies call themselves as Muslims but they were not fundamentalists. They did not follow the complicated code of shariah in as it is form. They had a simple philosophy of "Wahdat-ul-Wajood". To them God is everything so God is present in every one's self. Every one is important. No class, no cast etc. People attracted by this philosophy followed their manners and they started to call themselves "Muslims" though they did not even know the complicated code and laws of Sharriah. Then by the passage of time, fundamentalists muslim mullahs arrived in the sub continent. When they saw huge number of ppl calling themselves muslims but who do not follow the code of shariah, these fundamentalists started telling those innocent ppl that they are sinful because they are muslims and do not follow the code of sharriah. Then they started teaching them the code of sharriah.
I mean majoritry of present day sub continent muslims actually did not accepted islam. what they indeginiously accepted was the sufism. Actual islam was put on them by the fundamentalists. People of sub continent did not accepted fundamentalist islam indiginiously. It was put upon them. That is why more ppl today indiginously go to graves of sufies then those who go to mosques.
