This could be a good and independent debate whether the harshness of surroundings has adverse effect on the advancement of a civilization or not. Whether you look at Eskimos, or look at the Bedouins living in deserts, you will find equally primitive societies. I think that is because majority of their time is spent on pure survival; fighting the nature that is and taking care of basic needs. For a civilization to advance, they need to be living in a moderate or a balanced climate.

I mean if they really left the solar system because their planet was getting destroyed then they certainly were a technologically advanced species. I would do more reading on Planet Nibiru. I don’t know the full story.
