Very good question and i think it needs a open debate. If you see all religions, I dont think there is anyone who is stressing on violence and intolerance. Pretty much every religion advocates peace and patience.
But look all around wuts happening.
People in India kill others just on the suspicion of eating beef.
People in Burma/Myanmar conducted a whole organized genocide.
Then there are a lot of muslims killing each other and attacking others.
We know how much brutality happens in Gaza/Pal.
Even trump is a face of religious intolerance cuz despite his non-attachment with any religion, all the evangelists endorse him big time despite his proven bigotry and hatred.
So my point is, its religious leaders in particularly from last few dacades who have torned the basic teachings of religion and using it for their own "Chaudhrahat". So basically to them religion is just a mode for the lust of power. Its just unfortunate but i think thats why we need moderate people to be the leaders and stop others to take over their religions.

it has nothing to do with religion...it's the followers of religion who misinterpret religious codes.

Um.. I may not have command over religions but i dont think in Buddhism there are any verses about killing and im sure others too. But we are seeing them doing genocides. Again, its about (mis)interpretation of the teachings, otherwise basic instructions are fine.

Who is right on Syrian war, Russia or West? Which religion is causing them to do so? Why not stop feeding people greediness?

I believe the simple principle that my religion is better than somebody else's.
From my perspective, I believe it would be better if public display of religion is controlled.
