Religious Harmony in India

Just wanted to ask real quick whether the Indian constitution has the “Maintenance of Religious harmony act” like the Singapore constitution? Atleast after the Hindu/Muslim Bombay riots or riots of 2002, was something similar enforced?
I tried to look for it myself while googling but couldn’t find anything with the short time I had.
Even Singapore used to have major riots in the 1950s between all the relgious groups there but since these new laws have been enforced the various religious groups don’t feel disadvantaged in any way.
Buddhists, Hindus, Muslims and Christians live peacefully in Singapore and I wish something like that would happen in India as well just so there won’t be that many communal riots and killings so even with so many religions and cultures within India, people could live in peace.

Re: Religious Harmony in India

^ Sadly, we are tying to look towards Singapore before analysing flaws in our basic constitution which are clearly a by-product of Pseudo-secularism and minority appeasement policy of Congress since alst 50 years.

Agree there should be "Law for maintenance" of religious harmony.

But first thing is law should be equal to all.....Today in India, we lack this basic thing in our constitution which US and Europeans have.

Initial step to correct this was initiated by previous BJP led government to introduce "Uniform Civil Code" -- but sadly they got lynched by p-sec and commie crowd. Uniform civil code remains a dream.

Re: Religious Harmony in India

BJP is a fanatic and fundamentalist establishment and has nothing to do with religious harmony. It only divided the people in the name of religion and created host of problems for the country which will take years to solve.

BJP consists of the same ugly and dirty fanatic people who prompted the division of the country during 1947 and they soon lost their influence after killing the father of our nation.

Again they raised their ugly head during temple-mosque controversy during mid eighties and got some support from certain sections for few years but now people have understood their ugly intentions. U.P. elections have clearly shown that Indians are fundamentally secular minded and they cannot be swayed by fundamentalist and religious fanatics.

Re: Religious Harmony in India

I believe that political parties like BJP, Shiv Sena, Muslim League and other similar parties should be immediately banned and organizations like RSS, VHP and similar muslim or christian organizations which are the factory to produce fanatic, fundamentalist, narrow and close minded people should be immediately banned. These steps would eventually bring the religious harmony in the long run.

Re: Religious Harmony in India

^I agree with you sal45 that politics and religion should not mix especially in a country with so much religious diversity. That is one of the things that is banned under this "maintanence of religious harmony act". It would be the best start towards lesser communal problems but I don't know whether it would be that easy to ban the muslim league, bjp or shiv sena in India.

:(

Anyways, thanks for the input

Re: Religious Harmony in India

Why haven't any of the other political parties in India thought of anything similar to this "uniform civil code". It's obviously not an issue that is controversial in any way. What is there to disapprove of.
