While watching a religious (kinda question answer) talk on a Pakistani Channel, I was thinking those males and females who answers the questions of the viewers by saying that it is mentioned in Qur’an and/or in Hadith this or that. Why don’t they answers questions of the viewers with references? Moreover so far I never seen/heard a questioner after getting his/her answer ever asked for references?
Actually what I wanna say here it is very easy to answer without a reference simply by saying this or that is mentioned in Qur’an and/or its narrated in hadith this or that. Why the TV Channel don’t quote the references like many other Islamic Channels do?
And those males and females who answers these questions are professional? or just for the sake of coming of TV they do answers?
mainly because they are people of fiqh, and not individualised hadiths. Quran ayats are/should be instantly recognisable from their recitation
the satellite shows i watch, i am satisfied with the knowledge and uderstanding of the presenter who answers himself later in the program. the presenter mentions hadiths and ayats and from his short recitation sometimes i pick up the reference if i have previously come across it in written form
Most of the time what I hav seen they say 'oky it is narrated in hadith (without giving references) that the Prophet ordered us to do this or don’t do that and I see pplz agreed with them. But how do individuals knows whether that narration is correct or not? As far for the verses from the Qur’an that is recongnisable but about the hadith. They must give exact references too.
When you tell doctor your symptoms and he answer it by giving you what is wrong with you, do you ask for reference from a medical book? Just trusting the scholar is called belief. he is probably not lying or making it up. He is also muslim, so he knows that he cannot put buhtaan on Quran by saying ke Quran main yeah likhkhaa hai
Fair reason :k: but I was talking about hadith when one says that our Prophet PBUH ordered this or that. Hence, references will not only benefit us (Muslims) but also all other (Non Muslims) viewers too if they would like to do some research on it.
yes thats a cultural difference that is more pronounced since you are in MiddleEast(?)
the indian muslims have tended to learn islam at the foot (sitting infront of) a learned teacher rather then through individual reading/inspection
for some people hadiths also are instantly recognisable. and for some our fiqh is smooth like marble so answers are usually instantly recognisable as truth aswell
on the shows ive seen people call back in for the hadith references, the presenter has made arrangements for them to call back and briefly told of the general book name/author on air. so they will provide references, for those that require it, even for answers on a recent show. im sure you as a viewer could ring in next time the show is on and ask for the particular reference that you heard on the show
Pardon me I don't remember exactly. That time while watching the programme, i was discussing with my cousion that the answerer given so many examples and narrations but didn't came to that exactly point which was asked by questioner.

The analogy of religious scholar with a doctor is not appropriate. btw, now a days, when we go to the doctor, he doesn't simply write prescription for you but discuss your physical state and options available. We can discuss the pros and cons of the treatment. Moreover, there are good doctors as well as not so good ones and one index is how much people have benefited from them. what is the index of judging the verdict of a scholar? (obviously how much his view is in line with Quran and sunnah). you cannot have blind faith on a scholar. just don't leave it completely to them but every Muslim should gain knowledge about Islam
