Have you ever seen, or would youself, shop in high-end underwear shops, such as la senza, anne summers and some of the other fairly raunchy shops, agent provaceturer etc, if you wore the abaya/religious clothing/hijab/veil…obviously these things are for only husbands eyes, and inside the bedroom, but obviously buying it, would this type of clothing stop you walking into these stores.
Re: Religious clothing and Shopping....
I buy from these kind of shops all the time. You don't need to be married to go there. I actually find the shop assistants in these kind of places a lot more helpful than the normal stores
I think I'm smexy enough to go to Anne Summers ;)
Re: Religious clothing and Shopping....
im talking about wearing religious clothing, and stuff.
Re: Religious clothing and Shopping....
What I read your question as was: if you wear religious clothing, would you still walking into these shops.
My answer is yes, I would. And yes I do wear religious clothes.
Re: Religious clothing and Shopping....
At Victoria's Secret (I know this isn't really "high end") and at La Senza, I see women wearing hijab all the time. Once I saw a woman wearing niqab at La Senza. When I went to the La Perla in Vegas earlier this year....I saw a hijabi woman in there too. One of my close friends (who wears hijab) also likes to shop often at La Senza.
Not sure why anyone would have an issue going into the store itself to buy a product that's perfectly "halaal" to wear in front of one's husband. Besides lingerie, these shops all sell bras/panties which are essential (and not haraam to my knowledge) in a woman's wardrobe so I don't even see an issue with an unmarried practicing Muslim woman shopping there. At least at my local shops, all the workers are females.
Re: Religious clothing and Shopping…
Oh come on, lingerie shops are for women, hijabi or non hijabi. but yeah, I always felt odd entering such shops with scarf and abaya on.
On a side note, I remember once browsing in Debenhams’s lingerie section a bra’s hook got stuck into my headscarf, people were staring and it was pretty embarrassing. ![]()
Re: Religious clothing and Shopping…
Just because you wear religious clothing doesn’t mean that you’re forbidden from shopping for lingerie or intimate apparel ![]()
Re: Religious clothing and Shopping…
HAHA Thats one reason to feel embarassed!
I genuinely don’t think it’s anything to get embarassed about. It’s not like we flaunt the sexy underwear around to all the passerbys or something. A lot of the hijabi/niqabi/etc women I know prefer these kind of shops cos they have better knowledge and they are actually quite discreet.
Plus everyone knows that hijabis are really wild girls underneath ![]()
Re: Religious clothing and Shopping…
Mind you, the one thing that does bother me is if you have male sales assistants in stores like this - that makes me turn around and leave and yes, here you will see gay men working in lingerie stores :hinna:
Re: Religious clothing and Shopping…
Part of me wants to be snarky and say now what should hijabi women not shop for lingerie? but i’ll be honest, I saw a woman (in hijab/abaya) buying lots and lots of lingerie and I was more giggly and blushing than her :o
Yes, but they must wear only cotton bras and panties…none of that colored lacy stuff thats for wives or harlots ![]()
I hate hate hate hate men at VS…I mean since hwen did VS become a Family-shopping store???
and u know whats worse…when ure looking for underwear in a particular size and the dude next to you is doing the same. ![]()
Re: Religious clothing and Shopping....
u are smexy
and yeah i would.

Haha at least you know they won't perve on you!
Re: Religious clothing and Shopping....
There was a BBC short series a few years ago "Women in Black". In the Dubai episode there was a short part in Agent Provocateur - that yes, niqaab clad women not only shop there but they are the highest spenders.

makes sense...with niqab you can buy whatever you want without any fear of getting judged.

I never said is it haram or halal, or anything wrong with uit,i meant how do you feellllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll!
Cos i know i once walked in and happened to be wearing salwar kamiz, donno why, but i felt conscious of it, only because the staff and other buyers were all looking like glamouroous 5ft 11 blonde models, and i was a 5ft4, sans makeup, pakistani in salwar kamiz…anyway i went back in my lunchbreak on the monday, dressed up,in my work smart clothes, and wondered around comfortbly…
dono why these are the only stores i feel i need to dress up in. weird.
Re: Religious clothing and Shopping....
I dont think its always a question of hiding behind the niqab , it can just be that these women are a bit more confident in terms of their lingerie wardrobe.
Also @stoppit, I think I saw that tv show, and it makes sense that a lot of these kind of shops tend to aim for these kind of target markets, cos they know they'll spend a lot of money
Re: Religious clothing and Shopping…
Read what you wrote…
It seems pretty obvious that the bias lies within yourself. Nobody else felt weird seeing you dressed in the shalwar kameez…only you felt it.
This has to do with how you see yourself.
Why can’t you be a stunning 5’4" lady?
Why do you feel that you need to be in “work smart clothes” to feel good?
Re: Religious clothing and Shopping....
I feel uncomfortable going into these stores, and I don't wear hijab. But the fact that people can see me shopping there makes me feel immodest.

this is what i meant.
Re: Religious clothing and Shopping....

Then why make it about women in "religious" clothes?
