Pakistani opener Saeed Anwar yesterday dismissed fears that his new commitment to religion after the death of his daughter last year would affect his cricket.

Anwar is likely to open the batting in the Karachi Test against New Zealand starting today after almost six months out of the game as he recovered from a wrist injury and the death of his three-year-old daughter.

The 33-year-old became a devout Muslim after his only daughter died following a brief illness in September, and now sports a long beard. “Turning to religion doesn’t mean I can’t play cricket,” he said.

**"I am ready to strike a balance between cricket and religion and want to play at least until next year’s World Cup.

“My whole life has changed after my beloved daughter Bismah died last year and I have turned to religion for solace.”**

A veteran of 55 Tests with 4025 runs and 230 one-day internationals with 8348 runs, Anwar holds the record for the highest one-day score of 194 made against India at Madras in 1997-98.

So is that why india do not want to play against PAK

As predicted, Shahid Afridi will be dropped to make way for Saeed Anwar, regardless of scoring a century, half century and duck in his last 3 innings.

I find it hard to believe that Saeed is only targeting next year’s world cup..i mean he’s only 33..he should be able to play even in the world cup after the next one..if he can manintain his form and fitness

As much as I want this guy to stay in the team for a long time, I don't think he will stay for a long time, my predictions are that he might retire in 2 years, whatever is good for him is good for me, he gave Pakistan alot of great memories.
