Here's some thoughts of mine on Religion & Evolution to get the juices flowing.
What is Religion:
1)Religion is a recent phenomenon even though Modern Man is almost 200,000 years old and Homo Sapiens (relation of modern man) almost 5 millions plus years old; God & Religion had showed up fairly recently.
2)Religion was 'thought-up' to preserve social order and instill fear of those in authority. Religion is a code of conduct.
3)Religions of the World reflect the customs of the particular area that gave birth to it.
What is God ?
1)God can be anything you want it to be!
What is Soul ?
1)Religion states that God's light is in all of us or more commonly referred to as Soul. Man is created of the atoms and mineral composites of Space - as such, Soul is the Atom.
2)When we pass on or die these atoms or the soul is released back into Nature or Space to be eventually recycled into forms of life again.
3)Atoms are molecules or building blocks of life and has no conscience of its own.
4)Conscience in Man was developed as part of his evolution to Modern man.
Again, Who is God?
1)Eventually, Man or his Science will become God. Man's Science & Technology will defeat death or make man live forever.
2)Man's Science & Technology will conquer the secrets of the Universe which, Man will then use or misuse for his benefit or bane.
3)Religion will be replaced with a Universal code of Conduct.

' Have not those who disbelieve known that the heavens and the earth were joined together as one united piece, then We parted them? And We have made from water every living thing. Will they not then believe?'

Can all of the people who do NOT beleive in the Quran and think that it is a fabrication please explain the above verse quoted by Abrar? How do you explain the scientific fact that everything is made of water was written in the Quran 1400 years ago? It will be interesting to hear from a non Islamic point of view.

There is a difference between made from water (Qur'an) and made of water (your distortion).
I thought that every living cell basic composition is water? I'm not sure where I read this though, can anyone else shed light on the meaning of this verse.

Modern scientific theory on the origin of life was not firmly established up until the last two or three centuries. Prior to that, the predominant theory on the origin of life was based on a concept called "spontaneous generation" where living creatures literally popped out of inanimate matter spontaneously and continuously. This view was discredited with the work of many Renaissance scientists including Harvey and Redi, and in the 1850's, Louis Pasteur's research on bacteriology sealed the coffin on this theory. Starting with the work of Huxley up to the present day, an alternative theory has been proposed where life is understood to have emerged from a long, increasingly complex chain of chemical reactions. These reactions are believed to have begun in the depths of the oceans because the atmosphere was not sufficiently developed to protect living organisms from ultraviolet radiation:
"...it is believed that early forms of life developed in oceans or pools...It has been suggested that the colonization of land, about 425,000,000 years ago, was possible only because enough ozone was then produced to shield the surface from ultraviolet light for the first time."
This idea of life originating in the oceans is strongly supported by the two Qur'anic verses quoted above.
It is important to note however that the Qur'an does NOT contain an exclusive endorsement for evolution. While the verses quoted above indicate beyond any doubt that Allah created all living things from water, there are many other verses that emphasize His Absolute power over everything.

[3:47] "...when He has decreed a matter, He only says to it, 'Be', and it is."

Life is based on water is a simple primitive guess on the observation that animals and plants need water. In fact water is called 'jeevan' (life) in sanskrit.
The life on earth is carbon-based. Entire DNA, RNA, Amino acids proteins system have base in carbon. It uses water for interaction because of its abundance on earth.
scientifically, life on earth is called 'carbon-based'. non carbon-based systems, e.g. silicon based are possible, but not known.

The "Transitional Form" Who Never Lived
If earth layers and fossil records are inspected, it will be seen that all living organisms have been created instantaneously. The oldest layer of the earth, where fossils of living creatures have been found, is the Cambrian layer which has an estimated age of 500 million years. There are no animal fossils deeper than this layer. Animals belonging to this Cambrian layer have appeared suddenly in the fossil records with no pre-existing ancestors. These animals within the layers possess irreducibly complex organs like eyes, or systems like blood circulation and gills that only merge in higher organisms.. Also there is no sign in the fossil records that these animals had progenitors. Richard Monstrasky, the editor of Earth Sciences, tells the following about sudden appearance of these living creatures:
Researchers have since uncovered thousands of exquisitely preserved fossils that offer a glimpse back to a pivotal event in the history of life. This moment, right at the start of Earth's Cambrian Period, some 550 million years ago,marks the evolutionary explosion that filled the seas with the world's first complex creatures. In a blink of geological time a planet dominated by simple spongelike animals gave way to one ruled by a vast variety of sophisticated beasts, animals whose relatives still inhabit the world today.
** The existence of infinite variety of animals within living creatures and the fact that there are different species with no common ancestors, have been an unsolvable problem for evolutionists. That is why evolutionary resources include an imaginary time interval of 20 million years before the Cambrian Period where they state that "the unknown" and beginning of life started. This period can be named as the "evolutionary cavity". Yet, nobody has been able to explain this evolutionary cavity until now.**
The Ever-Missing Links
Darwin's theory of evolution pronounce that species have gradually evolved from each other in a step by step manner by mutations and natural selection.** According to this, it takes a very long a time for this gradual development to occur from the simple organism to the complex one. The evident result of this claim is to have strange creatures called "transitional forms" which should have lived in this evolutionary process. For instance, some creatures already having fish characteristics should have possessed some qualities of reptiles by time which would result in the existence of half fish-half reptile creatures in the past. Or there must have been birds, which attained some features of reptiles with progression of time. Since evolutionists claim all animals have come into existence from one another in a step by step process, there must be millions of these transitional forms in quantity and variety.
If such animals had really existed, their remains must have been present in the fossil records. Moreover, the number of transitional forms should have been even greater than present animal species and their remains must have covered all parts of the world.In addition , evolutionists have been researching in order to find the fossils of these transitional links since 19th century. Yet, there is not even a sign of these forms looked for with such devotion. As a result of the research made for one and a half century, there is not even one fossil belonging to a transitional form. This is the point where the greatest crisis of evolution occurs. In spite of the impossibility, the evolutionist scientists never give up their blind dedication to the theory. They always live with the expectation that one day the theory will be validated with the discovery of a transitional forms. They believe even if this generation fails to achieve the expected outcome, the scientists of the next generation will succeed the pursuit.**

This is a very specious argument. It says, for a particular period of time in the history of earth, we are unable to find the proposed fossil remains which should show a link.
Thousands of fossils have been found linking several of the present day species, the horse is a close relative of the hippopotamus, both sharing a common ancestor. Man and apes share a common ancestor, the division being fairly recent, about 2 million years ago.Whether we like it or not, our ancestor was indeed a tree climbing monkey like fellow.
As a result of the research made for one and a half century, there
is not even one fossil belonging to a transitional form. <
Fossils showing transitional characteristics have been found, the archaeopteryx is a famous example! It has bird like as well as reptilian characters, and has been unearthed in areas as widely spread as china and germany. Moreover, a present day bird, hoatzin is very similar to the archaeopteryx, with it's claws on wings resembling hands.
There are several such examples, the above quoted are highschool stuff that i learnt at school. Scientists should be knowing of a hell of a lot more number of examples, or else why do they do research at all ? All the digging to taint religion is a stupid argument!
