Religion taught us everything from (as daw-i-dil said from politics to social life )
and it also taught us how to settle disputes over protecting religion and forcing religion

Re: Religion - a curse or salvation?
^^ and it has also been the cause of a LOT of wars, genocides, displacements, human rights voilations all around the world... for more than a thousand years..
Re: Religion - a curse or salvation?
Islam was never an extreme religion and others are not as well .It never emphasized on wars or bloodshed directly . It always taught us to teach others politely and respect their religions as well.It is the human nature that does not understand things easily . Some follow the strict path and others suffer also
Re: Religion - a curse or salvation?
Since when this term "religion" gained popularity???? Just think about it.
People categorized the individual "beliefs" by calling them "religion".....It's same like categorizing Human by his race/ethnic background...
Before rise of Islam and Christianity, there was not term like "religion"....only the individual belief.
Re: Religion - a curse or salvation?
With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion. - Steven Weinberg
Re: Religion - a curse or salvation?
So does that mean they fought over personal beliefs in the ancient times
this is the answer , that God or gods never made humans fight for their worship . it were the humans who fought on emphasizing their preferences
Re: Religion - a curse or salvation?
It is upto each individual how they intrepret religion, religion itself is not the cause of hatred people are, those that are hateful will kill innocents even if they know full well their religion forbids that (e.g. 'Muslim' terrorists, Catholic Church collaborating with the Nazis, Hindus murdering Gujju Muslims). Pride, lust/greed, jealousy and hatred are responsible for war...
As a Muslim I don't feel hatred for any Non-Muslim because of my religion... The only time I feel hatred for them is when they say or do something negative against my religion Islam or my people the Muslims.. We might not all be the same religion but we all have the rishta/relationship of insaniyat (humanity) as Adam's children, and we're all creation of the one God/Allah/Eloh/Ahura-Mazda/Bhagwan/Mwari/Nana-Buluku/Tabaldak...
Those adhering to secular ideologies have caused just as much suffering and murder as those adhering to religious ones, just look at the Ruskies and what they did to Tartar and Turkic Muslims of Central Asia or Afghanistan (I know a person who no longer has a home or a family, only memories of a childhood, a mother and a homeland because their entire village was destroyed by the Ruskies, that's real suffering, being left alone without anywhere or anyone to call your own).
Re: Religion - a curse or salvation?
^^ I agree with most you say PromPaki.. But I don't understand why you get pissed off when people say bad things about some muslims.. I would understand that you would get pissed if sum1 talks crap about Islam.. but u shudnt be defending every muslim on this planet regardless of its deed.. if some muslims have commited wrong deeds then they should be blamed for it/dissed at.. it shudnt bother you.. you shud join the world in cussin at those muslims.. :D(talking abt the islamic terrorists).. same applies to christians who try to defend the crusades or hindus who try to defend gujrat 2002..
Re: Religion - a curse or salvation?
nice.
religion is a discipline with in which you do not need anything else to govern you or limit you.
the trick is unconditional faith.
it fascinates me when based on belief a new born is either named, baptized or given azaan in the ears - why?
because hope of the parents is that their child will be true to the religious following.
it is unfortunate that religion has been in the history and today made into an alibi for political menace, carnage and vicious cycle of hatered and callous killling of life forms.
our religion clearly teaches peace and many religions havein their teachings - peace.
quote=MatineeSiren;4923285]Regardless of whichever specific religion you want to discuss, religion itself has been a blessing for mankind. It has allowed civilizations to form, for people to make sense of the world around them, and to make sense of time, as well as many, many other things. Without religion, no one could have explained natural disasters. Without religion, no ruler could have imposed divine right and allowed for sucessive lineage rule. There are thousands of things that religion has done for us that outweigh anything negative that has arisen from it.
To break it down, religion is simply this: A world building, and world maintaining belief.
<--double majored in religious studies and sociology.

Re: Religion - a curse or salvation?
As if people with no organized religion don’t cause problems for others. ![]()
Its not religion, its dogmatism that is problematic. And even an atheist can be dogmatic about not believing in God.
Re: Religion - a curse or salvation?
^ i agree..very good explanation...."me is right" attitude is the major problem of violence in the name of religion....
