Re: Releasing doves/butterflies/balloons at weddings
Even though releasing doves or butterflies looks beautiful, I always feel bad for the poor things. I don't think the people who arrange it take proper care of them anyway and I wonder how many end up get hurt in the process...wouldn't want to start my marriage with that! :(
My vote is for the balloons .... or a completely different route would be fireworks at night.
Re: Releasing doves/butterflies/balloons at weddings
can someone tell me what the meaning is of releasing doves/balloons/butterflies/etc?
is there is a point to it?
I’m actually scared of butterflies. Imagine them all flying around and sitting on you! Ewwwie! ![]()
Anyways…I went to an evening wedding where all the guests were given paper lamps; and when we lit them, they would gain enough heat and float away. It was very cute watching all the lights in the dark sky. I think something like that would be more suited to an Asian wedding. Doves etc. seem too westernised to me.

- White Dove Release:
Doves choose one partner for life and make this commitment until death. The white dove has been used throughout history as a symbol of Love, Peace, Purity, Faithfulness and Prosperity. It is said that if doves are seen on your wedding day, a happy home is assured. These birds released here today represent the love and commitment you have given to one another this day. From this day forward, when ever you see a white dove, may you be reminded of this moment"
*- Legend of the Butterfly (For Butterfly Release):
*
According to an American Indian Legend, if anyone desires a wish to come true they must first capture a butterfly and whisper that wish to it. Since a butterfly can make no sound, the butterfly can not reveal the wish to anyone but the Great Spirit who hears and sees all. In gratitude for giving the beautiful butterfly its freedom, the Great Spirit always grants the wish. So, according to legend, by making a wish and giving the butterfly its freedom, the wish will be taken to the heavens and be granted. The guests gather to give the couple all their best wishes and these butterflies are set free in trust that all those wishes will be granted.

^I think you are right but I really do like MissChievious's idea of paper lamps. I wonder where one can find them?
