I thought they would be released before Dajjal.

My own thoughts is they they were the Mongols, and that the wall (made of iron and copper) referred to in the Quran is a symbolic wall indicating a nation of people put in place by Dhul Qurnain that would hold them back - since iron and copper were used by people back then to make armour and weapons.

The final bit in my theory - i recall reading that the wall was going to hold them back until the day they say “Inshallah” and then they would break through. And the Mongols definitely believed and would write to their enemies that it was God’s will that they were conquering (and killing) everyone.

This is a commonly shared theory in my circle too …the one I am more inclined to believe.
I don’t think it was a “physical” wall at all.
