KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain has asked Supreme Court Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry to take suo motu notice of his brother and nephew’s alleged extrajudicial killings at the hands of law enforcement agencies in 1995.
Altaf wrote a letter to the chief justice which was sent to the Supreme Court by post, e-mail and fax, according to the MQM’s Information Cell. The letter dated October 19, 2011 was released to the media late Wednesday evening.
Highlighting how the chief justice has taken suo motu notice [of issues] several times in the past for the sake of ensuring justice, Altaf wrote that if he were to take up the case, it would pave the way for uncovering the whereabouts of thousands of victims of enforced disappearances.
Recounting the events of 1995, Altaf wrote that his nephew Arif Hussain was arrested on December 5 after an “unlawful” raid by the police, Rangers and law enforcement agencies while his elder brother Nasir Hussain was arrested the next day. Altaf said that the two men were apolitical and had no connection with the MQM. He also claimed that law enforcement agencies also visited his other siblings to detain them but they had already shifted to different locations.
Altaf claimed that his brother and nephew were tortured by the police, law enforcement agencies and “agency” personnel for three days, and later taken away to a settlement in Gadap and killed on December 9, 1995. Their bodies, the MQM chief wrote, were dumped there and were later recovered from the Edhi centre.
In conclusion, Hussain said he hoped that the chief justice would take up his letter as a constitutional petition.

Re: Relatives’ murder: Altaf writes to CJ to take suo motu notice of 1995 killings
I hope he shows up for hearings.
He will never. He is just making mockery of Chief Justice, who took suo moto action on Karachi's killing and although the decision of the SC was not meet the expectations of many it did pointed out that MQM is involved in terrorist activities in Karachi.

Well said. CJ should take suo moto and call him to appear in his court asap. When he appears, which I doubt very much, then CJ should also start hearing of May 12, 2007 carnage.
Re: Relatives’ murder: Altaf writes to CJ to take suo motu notice of 1995 killings
I understand this something else. This case was than linked to murder of the brother of CM of Sindh that time. I see one is here to tell us more about that killing. At the moment Zardari elite and Altaf Mafia are very close due to Mirza ,Scotland yard and estab. In past it was thinked that relative of Altaf were killed by PPP but it was an act of agencies as their foolish play. The story I heard was that they were killed by some dissident of MQM planned by our fools. Who killed brother of CM,I never heard any story of that. Many of such killers are killed immediately to keep story hidden. There is NO Mirza in MQM to tell some truth.
Why Altaf came out for this, it can only by advice of Zardari.
