I don't agree with that.
I understand that if you have to interact with hindus at work or university as acquaintances then sure try to be tactful and avoid any discussions about politics or religion.
But unity between muslims and hindus just because we are all desi or "south asian" is not a good idea. Unity between muslims and hindus did not happen in a thousand years and it won't happen now or in a million years.
Instead we should try to promote unity between muslims who might be from different countries, belong to different races or speak different languages.
so cmon mr khan
how , where and when do you propose we do that?
do you mean us members on this forum?
or our estemeed policticans?
perhaps lovely mulsims such as our 'friends' the Muslims against Crusades , so avidly described in the news today?
It is precisely this fantastical sort of pointless 'rose tinted ' 'islam will conquer the universe' diatribe that i would expect a pakistani person to say - not saying you are one - just that this words resonate with me .... i have heard this sort of comment so many times .... it means nothing without ACTION.
Open your eyes and look at the world today - 2 years ago the muslims of the world stood by and watched the children of Gaza being bombed into oblivion - against worldwide condemnation - where was your muslim unity there?? that was the one time it was needed in recent memory, and the muslims were found lacking.
It embarasses me to be a muslim in this world mostly these days when i see what my brothers and sisters get up to - or how little they actually do - they talk a great talk but are at the back of the queue when it comes to doing !
I am serious. I hope its not the majority and I don't judge them all according to what I've experienced. I have had Hindu friends in the past but this is just wayyyy different.
I stil harbor deep gievances against a certain muslim gentleman. When we moved to Bombay many moons ago, my father had this man (with a long flowing beard) stitch our school uniforms. For our full pants (that is what we called them those days), this owner of the "Master Taylors" shop used his own unique approach - he stitched our cotton pants to exact length. Sure enough, after the first wash, the pants shrank, and we were walking like Charlie Chaplin, with the bottom about 3-4 inches above our ankle.
Over the years, his shop grew from a small shack to a reasonable space - and I was tickled whenever I saw him. if he is still around, I hope he is doing all right.
41 years later, remember clearly his taking our measurements in our living room. He was a dignified man.

introflection and despair are my only solace!!!
While I agree with many of your points your embarrassment at being Muslim is easy to cure. Why dont you leave the religion if you are that embarrassed? can I ask what practical steps have you taken to speak or take action against the extremists or is it just talk on your part.
We have a diverse community here and its not hard to live with Indian Muslims or Indian Hindus, if they are well mannered they don't bother any one in fact they become good friends.
