British Correspondence in Relations to Ameers of Sindh
A very interesting document. I laughed at treaty number 8 on page 75 of the document.
Also funny how Noor Muhammad Khan (Talpur?) addresses ‘King of Kings’ on page 83.

Re: Relationships between British, Rulers of Sindh, Afghanistan and Hindoostan
Talpur were chaploos and they still got sizable land ownership in different parts of Sindh. While Mughals have to lost their identity and Bahadur Shah’s Bahu is on wazeefa on Indian Government, I wonder how these Talpur who fought against British in 1843 could survive and have such land holdings till todate. ![]()
Re: Relationships between British, Rulers of Sindh, Afghanistan and Hindoostan
Policy as quoted by Dalrymple was "thrash sindhis, make friends with the punjabis but pay the pathan"
Re: Relationships between British, Rulers of Sindh, Afghanistan and Hindoostan
I read that it was thrash a punjabi and intimidate a sindhi.
Pathans were always paid by everyone! :D
Re: Relationships between British, Rulers of Sindh, Afghanistan and Hindoostan
I read it in the Return of the king by Dalrymple. During those time, punjab was under control of Ranjit Singh and Dost Mohammad was trying to regain Peshawar. Shah Shuja, grandson of ahmedshah durrani was in cage in the cortyard of Ranjit Singh.
May later they might have changed there axiom. But Punjab was always troublesome for them later Maharashtra and Bengal became another nodal centre of freedom struggle

@the_kaur
The exact words of british policy were, “rule the punjabis, intimidate the sindhis, honour the baloch and buy the pathan”
