Relations with Israel could help Pakistan: Musharraf

True, no question about it.

JERUSALEM: Relation with Israel could help Pakistan, former president Gen (Retd) Pervez Musharraf said in an interview with Israeli newspaper.

According to the Israeli newspaper Haaretz, former ruler said that Israel is a reality and we have to accept it. He said that Pakistan is an ideological state like Israel.

Musharraf said that acceptance of Israel could also help to bring Pakistan and India closer. He stressed that Pakistan should hold diplomatic relations with Israel same as various other Muslim countries.

He said that Pakistanis are not anti-Jews but anti-Israel due to Palestine crises. Former ruler said that Pakistan would continue to support Palestinian’s demand for independent state.

Musharraf said that he took initiative of having meeting between Pakistani former minister Khurshid Mehmood Kasuri and the then Israeli foreign minister Silvan Shalom in Istanbul.

Re: Relations with Israel could help Pakistan: Musharraf

I don't agree. Relations with Israel will have no long term benefit to Pakistan.
The only people who can help Pakistan are Pakistanis themselves. We can not be helped by Americans, Saudis, Israelis, or Martians. If we become enemy of our own economy then no help from anyone will make any difference.

Re: Relations with Israel could help Pakistan: Musharraf

Look at it this way -There is no difference between Israel and US - Our relations with US are well known and relations with USrael will be no different.

Re: Relations with Israel could help Pakistan: Musharraf

i guess his audience here is not pakistani people or authorities, but rather former employers.

Re: Relations with Israel could help Pakistan: Musharraf

What you mean no question about it bro. As khoji said..if we are enemies of ourselves then no-one can help us. So neither Israel or even Saudia Arabia can benefit us in no way. I think the only reason mushy is saying it coz..he knows how strong jews lobby is. So i would say big no to relations with Israel.

Re: Relations with Israel could help Pakistan: Musharraf

100% right.

Re: Relations with Israel could help Pakistan: Musharraf

BS......... i just wish he comes back.......and someone puts a grenade in his mouth and explodes it.

Re: Relations with Israel could help Pakistan: Musharraf

This confirms a few things.

1) US is keen (to the point of desperation) to get a more 'effective' leadership in Pakistan
2) Imran Khan is not sufficiently predictable
3) Kayani & Gilani, while fighting, have stopped using US & Saudi as the arbiter and seem to be inducting Chinese to that role
4) Musharaf sees an opportunity being uniquely positioned with the Pak military (which will never openly oppose him), and the USA

being uniquely positioned with the Pak military (which will never openly oppose him), and the USA
[/QUOTE]

Actually he was opposed but swiftly removed the immediate opposition at the time.

If he comes back then as many suggest he might even be arrested and I can say for sure theres still a few of the "old guard" who as NomiCA said will more than happily stuff him with grenades and drop him off a cliff.

Re: Relations with Israel could help Pakistan: Musharraf

^ probably. He is however smart enough to have secured unimpeachable guarantees before setting foot into Pakistan again.

Re: Relations with Israel could help Pakistan: Musharraf

Once upon a time in mid seventies, P.K. Shahani, the Agricultural Adviser Sindh, proposed that yield per acre in Israel was the highets in the world, so Pakistan should send its experts to Israel for getting training. He was fired just uttering these words. Now a retired general and ex-president is saying that it is o.k. to make friedship with Israel. I wonder how times have changed but the situation in Palistine is same, even worst as it was 45 years ago. If relations with Israel were not in the interest of Pakistan 45 years ago, how come, now it is o.k.? Will supporters of estabilishment like to share this change? I am saying this, because JI was the first one to condemn this adviser for saying this and he was fired immediately.

Re: Relations with Israel could help Pakistan: Musharraf

I was going to say that why should Pakistan be-friend a state whose policies are based on apartheid and whose human rights record is very bad. Then gain our goverments in Pakistan are not exactly any better so they the words kettle and black come to mind.

Until we can get human rights in our country how can we preach them to others?

Re: Relations with Israel could help Pakistan: Musharraf

Israel is a country formed because people of a particular religion needed a homeland. Pakistan is a country which was formed because people of a particular religion needed a homeland. Both are justifiably if excessively paranoid regarding their immediate neighbours. Both are crippled to some degree by their isolation. Both have problems with extremists.

Maybe it is time to recognize the things in common, and move forward.

Re: Relations with Israel could help Pakistan: Musharraf

I know Pakistan may benefit if Pakistan recognises Israel, but then ... my opinion in this matter is different, at least in present circumstances.

Pakistan and Israel ... differences: Even though both Pakistan and Israel was created as homeland in the name of religion (one for Jews and other for Muslims), I think there are big differences between the two.

Difference one:
Pakistan was created on land that mostly had Muslim population.
Israel was created on land that mostly had Muslim population (not Jewish population).

Difference two:
Pakistan was not occupied by force from where people living were expelled to make way for people from outside the area.
Israel was occupied by force from where people living were expelled to make way for people from outside the area.

Difference three:
Once Pakistan was created, Pakistan accepted all living in Pakistan, be they Muslims or not, as equal citizen.
Once Israel was created, Israel did not accept all living in Israel, be they Jews or not, as equal citizen.

About future Israel: In my opinion, Pakistan should not recognise Israel regardless of the cost, until Palestinians get an independent country of their own. This could happen in three ways. Zionists can make their pick. :)

1: Israel becomes state of ‘Palestinians and Jews’ where both can live as equal citizen. All Palestinians anywhere in the world should get the nationality of this state. [Obviously, due to being in majority, Palestinians would dominate this state politically]

2: Israel get equitably divided into Jew state and Palestinian state, with ‘Tel Aviv’ becoming capital of Israel and ‘Jerusalem’ becoming capital of Palestine. A line can be drawn from Gaza to West bank and all areas south of that line, along with Gaza and West Bank should be Palestine. Rest could be Israel.

3: All Jews leave Palestine (that is Israel and Palestinian enclaves) for another home-land and let Palestinians have their country ‘Palestine’. Jews new homeland could be given to them in USA, Canada, or Russia. Alaska could be a good choice for new homeland for Jews. Jews from all over the world could move to this new homeland and can name that homeland ‘Israel’ if they want to.

Re: Relations with Israel could help Pakistan: Musharraf

They were foreigners. Pakistanis were not foreigners.
Big difference.

Re: Relations with Israel could help Pakistan: Musharraf

no good for pakistan in relation with israel......

someone said on tv that there is a saying in diplomatic world that,

"we r not sure if american enemies are in trouble but american friends are always in trouble"

those who think joining hands with us will help pakistan,i dont think so .....

Actually us dont want a powerful and self reliant pakistan...so freindship with israel will not help pakistan...

did not we see what happened to turkey....

Re: Relations with Israel could help Pakistan: Musharraf

this sounds intresting....
