Usually the rejections are totally based on physical attributes.

That is not true. People do look for other attributes and education, family rep and other factors are also important, in fact more important than looks. I would any day pick an educated girl from shareef family for my brother than a pretty girl with bad reputation.

Physical attributes are and will always be the first filter when it comes to women. I am inviting the wrath of many for saying this but mostly the girls’ education is nothing more than adding value to the wedding CV. However in men’s case, its more the qualification, job, income, lifestyle and such. Looks do matter but definitely not the determining factor.

yeah well most of the time these things aren’t told to the potential. no one is going to say to the amma “sorry we are rejecting your daughter because your husband/son is a street washer”. the girl however is still absolutely dejected for being rejected.

not denying that. but that’s what i’m saying…even the drop dead gorgeous ones tend to get rejected and it’s like then their self-esteem drops down to absolute zero and they’re all depressed and stuff. it’s like…whaaa? 0_o you do realize you’re super duper gorgeous right? so why are you all mopey if some random person said no to you.

Thank goodness I didn't have to go through any of this stuff. My sis filtered out all the guys for me. I'd suddenly fall ill when some strange dude came to "see" me with his mommy and daddy if my sis got negative vibes :D

All I’m saying, is that desi girls need to build up a bit more self esteem. And they have every reason to not get depressed if for whatever reason they are overlooked for someone else. At least they aren’t Roma from Bulgaria:

I miss the good old days when you could just go out and buy a wife, or swap one for a camel or a horse.

Well, to be fair you can't judge a person's character in a random desi chai parade. So yeah, as long as it prevails looks it is. And like TLK said, education, family repute and background and all. For a bloke, on the other hand, the lady's family already knows how educated he is, how much he is earning, what his lifestyle is and such. Personally, I like gora system better. If you get along, you start to date, and if you still get along, you move in together, and if you continue to get along you get married. If you don't, you part ways. Makes more sense.
