Meraj Rehman (31), who has allegedly been sending obscene messages to Bollywood actors in the past, was arrested again by the Versova police on Saturday night from Hyderabad.
The arrest was following a complaint filed by Sambhavna Seth on November 21 with the Versova police. Seth had alleged in her complaint that Rehman had been sending her obscene and abusive messages threatening her with dire consequences.
The Versova police officials tracked him down on the basis of his cell phone number, arrested him from his house in Hyderabad, and brought him to Mumbai on Sunday morning. According to a police official, Rehman, formerly married to Manyata Dutt, resisted arrest and also threatened to kill himself if the police did not let him go.
According to senior police inspector Suresh Nalawade of the Versova police station, “We have booked him under sections dealing with insulting a woman and outraging her modesty. He was presented before the holiday magistrate court on Sunday and has been sent to police custody till Tuesday”.
