Why didn’t they give him MD, too?
KARACHI: The Karachi University on Tuesday awarded an honorary degree of PhD to Interior Minister Rehman Malik at the Special Convocation 2011 held at the Governor’s House here.
Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan, who is also the Chancellor of the University of Karachi, conferred the degree on Senator Rehman Malik. The degree has been awarded by the Syndicate of Karachi University in recognition of Malik’s matchless services to the country in the war on terror and particularly in providing peace to the citizens of Karachi.
The following is the text of the citation read out on the occasion:
Senator Rehman Malik was a brilliant student of Karachi University who received his Masters in Statistic in first class. He did not stop his quest for education and learning after leaving the university but continued his search for new avenues of learning and delivering lectures in his field worldwide.
He started his civil service career and then journey of his successes continued to take him to successive higher positions in his public service career. He excelled in every field and proved his leadership qualities. He rose to the rank of additional director general of the Federal Investigation Agency when he investigated cases of national and international importance and significance including money laundering and counterterrorism. For his bravery, the then president of Pakistan conferred Sitara-e-Shujat upon him in 1995.
When he took over the portfolio firstly as adviser and then minister for interior, the country was facing the brunt of terrorism and suicide attacks were the order of the day causing losses of precious lives of innocent people of Pakistan and of police personnel and Civil Armed Forces.
With his leadership qualities and dedication he strategized the operational plans and led the war on terror to contain Taliban throughout the country. The terrorists network stands broken due to his aggressive management of law enforcement agencies with singular and extraordinary leadership skills and qualities. It has of course enhanced the morale of the nation, LEAs and Civil Armed Forces. He has, been recently awarded Nishan-e-Imtiaz for his extra ordinary services to the nation.
Similarly, he provided strategic and operational support to the government of Sindh to combat and contain the miscreants operating in Karachi which helped to root out the menace of anti-social elements and thus maintaining a stable law and order situation in Karachi. It has since been improved considerably and normalcy has retuned in Karachi. He has been pleading the national cause and the unmatched sacrifices of Pakistan in war on terror in UN, INTERPOL and other international forums very effectively and professionally. The entire business community of Karachi has awarded a gold medal in recognition of his unmatched and continued struggle against the terrorists and target killers in Karachi.
He as former brilliant student and a student leader of this university has given outstanding services to his nation and earned a good name for his university. His research in antiterrorism and money laundering is serving as guidelines. His work is part of many famous documentaries, books of international fame including some films produced by many film producers based on legendary and outstanding performance especially in war on terror. In recognition of his matchless services to the country in war on terror and particularly in restoring peace to citizens of Karachi, the Syndicate of Karachi University is proud to confer Honorary Degree of Doctorate upon Senator Rehman Malik, Minister for Interior, Pakistan.
