Folks, I was not sure where to post this thread so I posted it here under parenting. My Kiddo will be old enough to start KG next year in the US. Hubby and I were planning on moving from our current residence since the school district is just OK. I have narrowed down 2 schools districts. School 1 is an excellent elementary school with stellar test scores and one of the best in our state (greatschools rating 10) . School 2 is also an excellent school with good test scores but not as highly ranked as school 1 (greatschools rating 9). But it has the international baccalaureate(IB) PYP which was introduced in 2011. Both school are feeder schools for the same middle school which is also a good school. So being first time parents, we are rather conflicted regarding which to choose from. I would love to hear the input from Desi parents . Please advice !

Greatschools website can be highly subjective, so don’t let that completely sway you either way. If you know parents who already have children in either school ask them what their experiences have been. Do the middle school and high school that these two feed into offer the MYP & IB diploma as well?
From my understanding and research, the PYP is more of a “global curriculum”..foreign language is required in elementary and the teaching method/style is a bit more rigorous. If after elementary, the middle school and high school are IB as well, I would go with the school with the IB curriculum. It will be good for the base to be the same from the beginning. Even if the middle and high school don’t offer IB, you can’t go wrong with getting your child a strong base to begin with. Either way, they both sound like good schools.

Thank you khattichic. The middle school that the IB elementary school feeds into is also an IB school as of this year. Talks are on to make the highschool offer IB as well but we are not very impressed by the high school. Our friends kids who went to the elementary school finished before it became an IB school. I like what I have red about the IB school’s curriculum but we want to make an informed decision. Are there any parents here whose kids are in the IB program?

My niece and nephew both graduated from IB programs at the American School in Dubai and I have a lot of friends here in Texas where I live whose children are in the IB programs at their public schools, and I’ve only heard good things
