Hareem01, with all due respect I’d pause and think about the way you’re using your privileges as a “moderator.” It’s clear you’re struggling with a conflict of interest. Here’s why:
a) Without warning or a chance to engage in dialogue, I received 10 infraction points and a locked down + disappeared thread almost immediately after I posted it. Your reason for penalizing me :“You are not allowed to attack and humiliate another poster like that.” 1) Your sophomoric “like that” doesn’t explain why/how what I said was censor-worthy 2) I didn’t just single out 1 poster but additionally expressed general disgust at everyone else 3) How can I “humiliate” someone by quoting their own opinions? Now here’s where it gets interesting. As a woman, you can find Demesne’s “purple nurple” jokes and visuals of a naked female body strapped with explosives going “kaboom” funny, yet I’m the one who needs to be “disciplined” for suggesting this is reprehensible. Nangi patangi women get your goat all right, but throwing acid on them is a non-issue. I’m embarrassed for you, really.
b) You don’t stop there. Instead of staying neutral on this thread, you’re defending Demesne’s calls to burn, dismember and disfigure women while you roll your eyes and accuse objectors of ‘making a mountain out of a mole hill.’ What is wrong with this picture? You’re going out of your way to defend her right to repeatedly incite and provoke violence against others, but you want to censure those who question this savagery. You’ve damaged your credibility as a debater, as well as a moderator of a public forum.
c) Did Demesne receive infraction points for her comments? If not, why? And if you won’t give her points, will you delete mine if you’re worth your salt? Clearly you’re struggling with moderating a public space impartially.
Finally, I stand by my reply to M_was_here’s thread. I posted my reply as a new thread - which made it look conspicuous - because you shut down the original post. Intimidating people into silence and censuring opinions won’t kill ideas - Pakistanis of all people understand that best. An alternative would’ve been to warn the others once, delete the offensive links/blogs and let the discussion continue. And if you really think the OP was ‘glorifying nudity,’ you’ve completely lost the plot. Maybe it’s a language/comprehension barrier.
If someone encourages acid throwing among other forms of violent assault, expect them to be taken to task for it, especially in light of current events in Pakistan. People are sick of this madness. My response expressed heightened disbelief over the lack of reaction to repeated incitement to violence. She advocated acid throwing, body burning and breast cutting, and I called her out on it as well as questioning others for their lack of/weak response to it. Consequently censoring my comments but not hers makes it obvious that you’re practicing double standards as a moderator.
This is more than an online discussion. It’s a microcosm of our society today. With 200 acid-throwing cases a year, ordinary Pakistanis being silenced, tortured and killed for not conforming to whatever brand of Islam or politics is in fashion, do excuse me if I can’t be as offensively flippant about violent language as you are. It took us 64 years to come up with an Acid Crimes Prevention Bill, but our mentalities won’t change.
Peace out.
