Refusing to turn up to work?

Has anyone refused to go into work for whatever reason?

I’ve gotten into a dispute with my workplace and didn’t turn up today and probably won’t turn up until late next week. I hate being forced into this position. It’s times like these I wish I didn’t cancel my union subscription.

Re: Refusing to turn up to work?

did you call them and let them know you are not coming?

Don't do that. Unless they have violated your rights so you can sue them, not going to work out of anger can backfire on you

Re: Refusing to turn up to work?

agree. HR can fire you if you don't show up without informing ..at least in my previous work place.

Re: Refusing to turn up to work?

In my company if you do not go to work without informing them that is a reason for termination.

Re: Refusing to turn up to work?

Yep.

Re: Refusing to turn up to work?

I've gone on strike but i'm thinking about my next move.

Re: Refusing to turn up to work?

Not at my workplace. I'll get a formal meeting/disciplinary.

Re: Refusing to turn up to work?

What a bad company to work for.

Re: Refusing to turn up to work?

hmm..such an awkward situation

What reason did you give them?

Re: Refusing to turn up to work?

Told them I'm stressed..

Re: Refusing to turn up to work?

I don't see where you mention what is going on with at your work or what kind of work you do ?

Refusing to turn up to work?

So did you pull a sickie? Surely you cannot just say 'hey sorry im striking today wont be coming in' wont give you any brownie points in a disciplinary..which also goes onto your records and declared in future references

Re: Refusing to turn up to work?

I wish people would mention what country they are in. Job advise is dependent on what country you are in.

Pulling that off in Pakistan.. hmm depends on whose connection you used to get the job.
Pulling that off while in Saudi Arabia... first flight back to Pakistan.
Pulling that in USA... depends on what the situation is, there may be other options. But not showing up to work means they have a reason to fire you now. You will have difficulty filing for unemployment or going through court since you are a nondependable person.

Re: Refusing to turn up to work?

Pulling that off in India - Talk with Manager on returning or on phone, if that doesnt work - then HR will intervene. Could be fired / not fired depends on the Company…but, after about 1~2 weeks, your case is closed and termed absconding and you cannot be hired back in the same organisation, which will in-turn hurt your future endeavours as you will not get positive feedback on background verification in the next company you join in.
:hmmm:, maybe more…this is what I have seen around me
