Reema lashes out at Lollywood "hypocrites"

Reema lashes out at Lollywood “hypocrites”
by MAIRA FAYYAZ

Lollywood’s actress-turned-director Reema attacked the film industry people, Sunday, for showing a lack of concern for her very first production, Koi Tujh Sa Kahan, with regard to its theatrical release in the country on August 12, 2005. “It is impossible that one can avoid being a victim of hypocrisy which is rampant in the Pakistani film industry,” she said, talking to newsmen at a local cinema.

Reema spoke vehemently of the way people like Syed Noor and Mubasher Lucman had announced the release of their blockbuster movies - Majajan and Pehla Pehla Pyar, respectively - on the same date. She accused them of formerly agreeing to give a free box office reign to her film and then backing out.

"No doubt competition is a good thing but only as long as it is positive.
“I am not feeling insecure at this development,” she said, “but I must call a spade a spade and these people are hypocrites.”

She added that when she confirmed the date (August 12) for her movie, everybody gave her warm wishes, "But now I’ve come to know that they have brought forth three big movies on the same date. What should I feel? Is it meant to damage my film?

“As far as cinema owners are concerned, I have talked with them of all my requirements and they’ve responded positively. So, I am satisfied on that account. I’ve proved myself as an actor and a model, now I will prove myself as a good director as well.”

Moreover, Reema said that an Indian company offered to give a huge exposure to her movie, but when she read the agreement she realised that they just wanted to use this for their own vested interests.

Reema claimed that she could also show the agreement in a press conference.

She added that recently a documentary was shown on an Indian TV channel in which the presenter said that the Pakistani artists were looking towards Bollywood because that’s where they expected to be paid better.
“I can claim that I’ve always preferred my country so that people may remember Reema,” she said.

“Otherwise recently Rakesh Roshan offered me his film but I refused because I wanted to do quality work and no small parts.”

Reema also invited the media to give her the support she deserved, saying that media could “make or break us”.

She also exhorted Lollywood directors and producers to put a stop to all leg-pulling and hypocrisy which was eating into the film industry.

Re: Reema lashes out at Lollywood “hypocrites”

:hehe: @ free box office

afraid of competition!

oh and what kind of glasses was she wearing in that press conference? I guess she thinks that glasses make her look “Parhee Likheee”

Re: Reema lashes out at Lollywood "hypocrites"

Reema is a talent. Media must make it for her.

Re: Reema lashes out at Lollywood "hypocrites"

awww poor girl. that's why i always liked her - she seems like one of the lesser of the two-faced heroines in our industry.

I don't get what the big deal is - why cry and rant about it - she should be smart, and just move the date due to "technical problems".

Re: Reema lashes out at Lollywood “hypocrites”

Trust me - she’s the Queen Beeatch of the Lahore industry. She’s known for ruining the careers of the various male co-stars she starred with. Like Shaan, who was pushed off in the early 90s, and then Babur Ali. She’s also known for using her “connections” to get leverage on the various producers/directors. That happened when she threatened Samina Peerzada with dire consequences [rumored to be about ghundaa manhandling] if she didn’t cut the US-based actress’s dance/dramatic sequences in the film. The result was the totally patchy Shararat. The victimised actress (Mehr Hassan) even went on record in Images saying “All Pakistani actresses are prostitutes”. :hehe:

On the other hand, Meera is known to be dumb; she puts her foot in her mouth all the time. Reema is cunning and calculating. I say watch out for her, I don’t even buy that she directed Koi Tujhsa Kahaan…

Re: Reema lashes out at Lollywood "hypocrites"

i hope her movie does well and i dont understand how its pakistani?? isnt the actress in it indian and everything done in the movie is indian?? if she spent so much money she should have actually used pakistani talent and tech's she is just fooling herself.

Re: Reema lashes out at Lollywood "hypocrites"

Folks unfortunately her antics are untrue and an attempt to generate free publicity and news for herself and her film. Reema has yet to launch her television promo or the theatrical one. She is still got to release her audio album and songs and no pics or photosets or anything. We announced the dates much earlier and released all of the above as you may be aware of. So lets hope that she too gets a good run at the box office and we do well as well. Our best wishes for anyone who wants to make a film and since when has any competition detered a real maker??

Lots of luck

Re: Reema lashes out at Lollywood "hypocrites"

^^ I think she's using this as a ploy to delay the theatrical release of her film. Probably some lose strings still need to be tied and then as you said we haven't seen ANYTHING from that film yet. Like total lack of any sort of marketing considering she's thinking abt releasing her film in 3 weeks! It sucks.

Re: Reema lashes out at Lollywood "hypocrites"

When I spoke to her a few dyas back I suggested a few joint promotions. I thought if we can combine our cast and go on a nation wide media meet tour and that would help us genertae a lot of coverage. Plus we can give bigger advertisements for a joint ticket something never done before in the history of Pakistan, she said she would meet me first thing when she lands in lahore. Well she landed in Lahore and straight went to meet the press and came up with these allegations that she did. She later called me and said maybe I wanted to make use of her commercial sponsor! I gave her a piece of my mind...infact a very large piece of my mind. I also told her that looking down on others would not help her film instead if everyone does well then the industry benefits. By the way neither Reema's film nor mine will benefit the industry. If it does then it will only benefit our distributors or exhibitors. For you see both of us used bollywood technicians extensively and if our respective films do well then more and more people are going for the same formula instead of using the local ones. The best way to help Lollywood is to encourage youngsters like yourselves on the forum to come forward and make a career of it. Otherwise there is no chance. All these claims that "I am trying to revive the film industry", are totally hypocritical, I mean who are we trying to fool? Pakistan film industry has produced 126 films per year for over 25 years. Thats much more than even today compared to Mumbai. In Mumbai they still make about 96 Hindi films every year. To revive the glory days of pakistan cinema is not the job of one individual but the entire lot. That will come if the government can introduce film making as a subject in colleges and universities. That will come if banks recognize the segment as an industry and allow loans and financing on it. That will come if our social outlook towards the industry changes. I mean no single person including myself can make claims of reviving it. Its like calling our selves self proclaimed ambassadors of peace and falling in love with ourselves. 200 million dollar productions from Hollywood have bit the dust, be it Alexander, Troy or Kingdom Of Heaven. Not that they were not good films or badly made, they had week story lines and scripts. Japan makes almsot 800 films a year. They have the money and the technology the entire world uses there technology. Yet how many japanese films have you seen in the International arena?? Chinese yes..japanese no. So its not the cameras, editing suites, looks or money its a vision that will revive an industry when everyone begins to own it and becomes proactive right now our biggest folly is that we are reactive. As an industry we need to develop a vision that extends way into the future only then we stand a chance or else our competition is strong enough to eclipse us. I know some people hate me for my comments but being truthful and honest is one step in the right direction..well at least thats what I was taught....

Re: Reema lashes out at Lollywood “hypocrites”

Where did you get that statistic? Mumbai produces 800 movies per year.

Re: Reema lashes out at Lollywood "hypocrites"

800 is films produced by india, bollywood only releases like 2 films on average a week, which makes it produce like 100 yearly.
