Yes ! I used to use it in certain foods quite a lot many years ago then stopped , I think i got bored of it .. but last week rediscovered the magic of it and now cant let go !
sprinkled a bit of it in the omelette and it tasted rocking .. in the paratha and paratha tasted so nice and spicy .. in the pasta …on the hummous .. cheese on toast with light sprinkle of garlic powder .. awesome !
Anyways, here’s the best bit.. French fries ..
Cut up fresh potatoes, sprinkled, salt, red chilli powder, loads of garlic powder .. then add in two tablespoons of corn flour and mix it all .. the fries should look dry .. then in a really heated oil in the wok, add in the fries one by one ..
Perfect crispy, awesome , spicy fries will make your day … you can sprinkle some chat masala on top ..
I mostly use it to marinates or occasionally just regular dishes.
A while back I was making karahi gosht and it tasted kinda sweet due to tomatoes I guess. So I decided to add some garlic powder to the dish while it was still cooking, turned out so awesome. Ever since I’ve become a fan of garlic powder.
both are the most aromatic things .. Infact I add methi seeds in most vegie and karahi salans and they taste rocking ..
regards garlic powder, try changing the brand .. I remember buying it from a desi shop once and it was stinking ! now I get those tiny little bottles that you get at ASDA / Tesco .. they work really well ..
do you guys use it as a replacement for fresh garlic? I’m new to cooking so still learning the ways, and found garlic powder in the cupboard so made a chicken salan out of that… would it taste better with fresh garlic though?
Its usually in the herbs and spices isle in a little bottle..
Nope not as replacement to fresh or frozen garlic. Basically garlic powder only acts as a taste enhancer. If you plan to use it in the salan, please dont. It wont give your salan the required taste.
also i have noticed that, dishes that need little cooking time, Garlic powder tastes really good in them. The longer the cooking, the powder’s taste goes down !
