I have saved up some money to redecorate my bedroom woop! My parents have bought me some really nice dark oak furniture.
I am wanting to change the colour of my room, with one statement wallpaper wall and the rest I am going to paint and complimenting fabrics etc.
I am just wondering what colours would look good and go with dark furniture?
thankss

Although I haven't done my bedroom in a dark colour I can tell you what I have done in my kitchen where the colour scheme may suit you?
I have walnut colour units so went for a chocolate box scheme-the walls are pink.
Dark furniture looks stunning against creams, teal, pinks and paler more softer shades.
I'm sure you will already be doing this I would google images of dark furniture and see how they have been set against colours. Does that make sense?
Re: Redecorating my Bedroom - Ideas please
hey inspiron, sorry , i just saw your thread …
right, you are undergoing similar dillema as me
so I will share what I know so far :
I too have dark wood furniture and not very keen on the wall paper thingy … Dark oak is a strong color in itself and if you try to add too much color around it , it will look too messed up .. stay with neutral colors for the floor and the wall paint ..
But first step should be to decide the accent color you want … so this will be your bedsheet color , your lamp / vase color and your wall paper color … I am in love with either violet / purple or teal these days .. but you can consider a brighter color if you like , for example Magenta would look awesome too …
So go for a wall paper hunt and see if you can find that perfect one .. look for a two toned wall paper .. usually one color is bright and the other one is neutral/.. you can either paint the rest of the room in that matching neutral shade .. or you can pick a very light earthy shade that will go in contrast with the oak as well as the accent color you choose .. for example, very light shade of earthy brown and purple / teal both go very well together …

erm one more thing, if you got some spare money at hand, invest in a decal .. instead of the wall paper .. pick a huge sunset/forest/ automn kind of picture that they enlarge the size of the wall and put it on either half of the wall in the middle and paint the rest of the borders or get a full wall done .. i think its a very modern look and will totally change the way your room looks ..
Re: Redecorating my Bedroom - Ideas please
Dark colours aren’t just meant for bedrooms imho. I think any shade in neutrals would look good with dark oak.
What sort of wallpaper you’re looking for?

Re: Redecorating my Bedroom - Ideas please
I think also depends on how big or small the room is , if its small/medium sized room then honestly dont go for very dark shades coz it will make the room look even smaller ...

How about celery green for the walls?
Re: Redecorating my Bedroom - Ideas please
We have dark furniture in the bedroom too and this is what I did:
Walls are light cream (it's a rental, so only so much I can change and thi is the same cream as the built in wardrobes) and the headboard wall is a dark brown wallpaper with subtle bronze/silver (depending on the light) damask pattern. Curtains are that same chocolate brown with broader gray and thinner black velvety stripes. Bedcover is cream with a little brown embroidery on the top part and the throw pillows are again cream/silver/bronze. Whenever I want a little extra colour it's easy cause the base is fairly neutral. I can just add some turquoise pillows to the bed, bowl on the dresser etc.
Sounds so odd when I write it like that, but it's not, promise.
Re: Redecorating my Bedroom - Ideas please
^ that actually sounds really good Rchange ... I think decoration should be done in a way that its easy to make minor changes in it when one gets bored of a certain color ..
Re: Redecorating my Bedroom - Ideas please
Wish I had realized that before having one of our living room walls plaited a deep purple. Although I like the colour, I worry about the day I get bored. Thank god it's only one wall to paint over...
Re: Redecorating my Bedroom - Ideas please
I am pondering over my living room decor for a while now … and since I am in love with the Teal color … I am now considering turning one of the walls brown and then keeping a teal rug and teal cushions …
If ever I get bored of Teal , it will be much easier to replace it , coz brown goes very well with almost every color
I really like the palette that Catskin has presented. Any beige or tans would complement dark really well. I would suggest to invest in good to excellent quality paint. I don't where you live, but America sherwin Williams or Benjamin Moore are considered superior paints. They are more expensive than other brands but the result is worth it. Many these pay t stores will have pics of scheme and probably of furniture colors similar to yours. Definitely look thru magazines and online and find a scheme that is visuallly appealing. Lighter colors make the space appear bigger. If you have dark furniture to begin with I would not suggest a dark paint color. However for curtains and other accent pieces I would suggest to incorporate a little bit of the dark color. Good luck!

Redecorating a home includes many things such as furniture, flooring, curtains, lighting and many more. They improves the beauty of the home. It looks pretty good if you choose the brighter wall color for the dark furniture.
