red lobster biscuits - lard?

Hi guys! Hope you all are well

My friend recently told me about a recipe to make those delicious red lobster cheddar/ garlic biscuits.

Here is the recipe:

2 c. Bisquick
2/3 c. milk
1/2 c. shredded cheddar cheese
1/4 c. butter
1/4 tsp. garlic powder or garlic salt
1/2 tsp. oregano

Mix Bisquick and cheese; add milk. Spoon on an cookie sheet (makes about 12). Bake at 425 degrees for 8-10 minutes. Brush with a mixture of melted butter, garlic powder/salt, and oregano. Bake for another 1 minute to set.
**
PROBLEM - Bisquick and most other biscuit mixes contain lard or some other kind of animal shortening :frowning: **
**
So the question then is - does anyone know a good biscuit recipe to replace the Bisquick?

Re: red lobster biscuits - lard?

I'm thinking

2 c all-purpose flour
1 tbsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt

Also makes me wonder if the actual Red Lobster biscuits have lard/ animal shortening? or do they make it from scratch?

You would never think such a think as biscuits or Doritos have pig products in them :( makes me sad. It seems unnecessary.

Hi Massom_se_larki,

Just like you I love Red Lobster’s biscuits, and had no idea about the lard/shortening issue in the Bisquick. I thought they would be halal.
Anyhow I did some research on the Internet for you. You can also use vegetable shortening which can easily be found at your local grocery store (example, Crisco).

I found on the Internet what is called a “Bisquick Substitute” recipe. Just use Crisco vegetable shortening instead of animal shortening. After all, you only need 1 tablespoon of it.

[FONT=verdana, arial, helvetica] 1 cup flour
1-1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon shortening
[FONT=verdana, arial, helvetica]Combine all ingredients and use as a substitution for Bisquick (Baking Mix)

I’ve posted Bisquick substitute recipe links below for you. You can choose whichever one you feel comfortable with.

So, cheer up. You can STILL make those Red Lobster biscuits:) Lard is a no-no because it is ALWAYS made from animal fat (unless you can get it halal). But shortening can ALSO come from vegetables. Other substitutes for shortening include the use of butter and margarine. Hope this helps. Now go make those biscuits!

Re: red lobster biscuits - lard?

ok i use JIFFY... allpurpose baking mix...for those biscuits ,,us mai veg shortning hai,,soya waghera...

bisquick contains hydrogenated oil, not lard.

Check the ingredients on the back. The one I was about to buy said lard and beef shortening.

Thank you redvelvet! :)
