Typically, you usually see a smouldering, smokey eye with nude lips, or red lips with simple eye makeup. But for some reason, I’m envisioning a gorgeous dark navy smouldering eye with deep red lips. Would that look clownish? I’m playing around for this look for my cousin’s wedding. One of my dresses is a deep midnight blue, and I know I definitely want to rock the red lips, but I also want to work in an awesome navy look with my eyes…
I have seen girls do the smokey eye and bold red lips but personally, nothing sets off a smokey blue eye then a nudey pink lip!!
Red lips would look amazing with a brown taupe-ish with a shimmer smokey eye or or even grey on the purpley side smokey eye would look great with a red lip.
I've done it before....smoldering black/brown smokey eye with red lips. It can work, just make sure the eyes aren't too dark and the lip is red, not maroon.
It can be done but the eye cannot be too dark of a look...eyes should be smokey but not too intense. The lips can be red but not that dark color we might see on a bride sometimes...this would have to be a true red.
I did it for a red/white/black formal outfit.. the key is not to ‘over-smoke’ the eyes. Just smudge a navy eye-shadow with very little black, do the same under your lower lashline and then rock your red lips!
Ooooohhh Ive been thinking about this, I'm wearing navy and red for my sister's wedding but wanted to have smokey eyes ans red lips! Was gonna just have the smokey eyes with nude, but am gonna try it with red lips first to see how it works :)
I’ve never done the dramatic, really dark raccoon type smokey eye, so yea, I agree that would be OTT if paired with red lips! I was thinking more along the lines of Gina’s suggestion…time to play and practice!
Now for the red lips, every one of you has seen my ugly mug (), any ideas as to which red lipstick I should try for a “true red”?
^ I haven’t seen your lovely mug, but I’ll suggest anyway. Revlon Really Red, Mac Ruby Woo. If you’re flexible, vibrant pink is another (more youthful/less intense) option for a midnight blue outfit. Just an idea.
Or maybe neutral silver on the lid with a pop of blue on the lower lash line. I love the idea of a dark smokey eye, but I’ve realized it’s not flattering on deep-set peepers.

The second pic is obv slighter deeper red which a lot less eye make up. I’m a bit worried cos my lips aren’t as full as these, and I can’t go too bright in terms of red cos it doesn’t suit my skin
Maddy, I think I’m leaning towards the bottom one (hair down) although I was envisioning having my hair up in a Kim Kardashian inspired sleek bun! My lips are pretty full, so I guess I have to make sure to exfoliate and smooth the crap out of them, right? And do I use liner or not? It’s been ages since I’ve worn red lipstick, I’ve forgotten how!

If it's with the navy dress of yours that I think you have, then defo go for the hair up option, it will look really chic! Ugh, I forgot that I'm gonna be wearing a scarf so I got to make sure that my make up isn't too much or I'll look like a tranny :(
I really like the blue eyeliner, but dunno how it will go in that shade, maybe try it with navy and mix in some black? I'm just gonna go for black smokey eyes but not too smoked out.
You really need to experiment or try out these looks now, that's what I'm gonna do. I'm hoping to get my make up done by a MUA on the day, but I wont have time to experiment with looks and stuff cos I gotta be ready early in the morning, so I'm gonna compare the smokey looks with nude and then with red lips, and see what looks better.

Omg Khatti, I asked one of my cousins to do smokey eyes for a navy outfit once, and I really hated it :( I'll PM you a pic of what it looked like, it was a proper tranny day for me :(
To be honest, Red lipstick with smokey eyes look too bridal-ish. Its sort of like show either legs or cleavage.

Olive skin and dark haired women can pull off dark eyes with red lips beautifully. (Reference Monica Bellucci and Penelope Cruz).
U can also line the upper lash line thickly with navy blue pencil liner( available from loreal, Rimmel, Milani) and them smoke them out and wear a taupe/nude shimmery eyeshadow all over the lid along with the red lip.
I love having dark eyes with blood red lips and gets many complimenton them! I have done bronzy black smokey eye/blackish grayish smokey eye/nude brown kind of smokey eye(How Adele has mostly)and all of them looked fantastic!
