As a citizen, do you think you have the right to record public safety officials during their course of public work? Specifically talking about the incidents of Ferguson, Mo. For those unaware, it’s another incident of an unarmed teen being shot by the Officers. Please search for the news, and read the facts to make an informed decision about what exactly transpired.
The current state of the incident is that there have been protests, and very recently Media personnel and ordinary citizens were asked to stop recording. Some media personnel were arrested and then released.
There is no doubt that there are a countless numbers of police officers who risk their lives daily for the sake of the safety of you and me, and sometimes sacrifice their life trying to protect others. We should all appreciate their hard work, and extend gratitude for their service. The fact also remains that there are a minority number of officials who are severe in their reach, and it is possible that this incident could have been handled much better.
With that said, is it acceptable for your recording device to be consifcated pending a search warrant to access the device and view/delete/modify the recording itself? What are your thoughts on this incident, and other similar instances that have occurred before such as Treyvor vs. Zimmerman (Florida).
As far as video recording of police brutality is concerned it should be allowed. Just take the very recent example of that brooklyn man who got killed by chuckhold from a policeman when he was arguing with cops. Only that vid lead to the truth otherwise cops would have sealed that whole story. Cops perform a great job in this country but nobody should be ask allowed to cross the line
Does that apply to public officials who routinely perform their job in view of public? I know where you’re coming from on this. It is in fact a law that some states enforce according to the article. But how can a citizen inform an officer during the course of questionable behavior that he/she intends to record for the sake of evidence?
i think we could use GS mods as examples of policemen. do we want to record their warnings and bans and show it in public domain? vat u think, teggy pai?
I think you have a point there. Unfortunately, we’re not talking about that here. What do you think about the actual incident and its’ application to Police and Public relations?
