Reconstruction

When you travel to Pakistan, you get a chance to see glimpses of how Pakistan is functioning. Whether it’s street lights that are broken, or the poor condition of the streets themselves, or the sewrage water piling up after rainfall–all glimpses that say that Pakistan needs reconstruction. You also get to see masses of people, and masses of people who are trying to find means to live their life by. It appears that there is so much work to be done in terms of just reconstruction, and there are so many people who need jobs. So, the question than arises, why doesn’t the government just create jobs for these masses and masses of people and make Pakistan look spick and span. Hey, Pakistan can be a financially-challenged country (or simply put, a poor country), but even poor people should have the potential to keep their houses clean. So what I have been wondering about is, what hinders Pakistan from creating a huge number of jobs just for plain reconstruction?

Re: Reconstruction

when i left pakistan they were building a bridge around my neighborhood......when i visited 5 yrs later, the bridge was built, broken, caused an accident and thus closed.

Re: Reconstruction

Because all the rulers care about is staying in power and filling their pockets. For much of world, this can be considered pessimism, for Pakistan it is everyday realism.

Re: Reconstruction

We had few exceptions to the rules of Pakistan.

For example, Nawaz Sharif during his first tenure, truly believed in reconstruction. Unfortunately our leftie-Maulana ittehad got him kicked out and the BB-commie promptly canceled international agreements meant for the reconstruction.

(Just wait until Maulanas and Commies on this forum jump up and down trying to defend Mr. 10%, and the bearded hazraat).

Pakistanis also did a lot reconstruction during Ayub Khan's time, and guess what? Our leftie-commie Bhattoo, nationalized everything.

So the bottom line is that we do have small bouts of reconstruction interspersed by commie-leftie destruction. Unfortunately this is what we call one step forward and two steps back.

Our hopes however are high. We are now entering the third major phase of reconstruction. Let's see how long of time we get this time around, before getting trampled by the Mullahtic-Commie Unholy alliance.

Best regards

Re: Reconstruction

Well, how about creating revenue for the government. For example, starting vehicle emission testing; and setting a hefty yearly fee for that to be done. Setting guidelines for the amount of emission permitted for the vehicles would decrease the amount of pollution. And, the yearly fee for the testing would generate revenue for the government. That then can be applied for construction and maintainence. I think maintainence work is even more important. If we keep fixing the little breaking parts in the roads, that would decrease the necessity of re-building the entire roads. Also, those historic landmarks would look even more appealing for the tourists--more revenue for the government. Just few things I had been pondering about.
