I am planning to get me a camera. I am not into professional or even very serious photography stuff. So I don’t need anything with fancy lenses, attachments and contraptions. I need something with:
good results, as in colours and clarity
a good optical zoom, ability to take distant shots
portability - I need the camera mostly for my travel and I would hate carrying around a rocket launcher with me
good and clear night shots, xenon flash or whatever fancy stuff that helps you take good shots in poor light conditions
something robust - should be able to take a bit rough handling and travel
Basically I need an AK-47, just aim and fire and you will hit quite well. Perhaps a slim/small SLR? anything which is compact and has good features, a good lense. I dunno, please help!!
You are rushing. I bought D40 nikon. I went back to upgrade it in 3 weeks.
So I suggest wait for a little do some more research.
OR
Make sure you have way to dispose first cam. As selling it.. or give it brother or some thing..
So you could get a next cam..
If you buy SLR you will find your self lens pretty soon.
if u r not into serious photography than you r not interested in buying lenses.... right ?

Unless you are planning to play around with exposure, do not buy a DSLR. It has a lot of bells & whistles, and unless you use it no point paying for it.
Nikon/Canon/Olympus/Sony make plenty of great point & shoot cameras that should do the trick for you.
Can you have them on same computer, its going to be easy.. we willl do it in real time...
Just send me a PM, when you see me on line..You have no idea how badly we want to see your pics.
Thank you all for your advice. I think I need to learn the basics first i.e. what different types and technologies are floating around in the market these days. I am so outdated when it comes to cameras. I will consult the mighty google and get back to you guys for recommendations - ideally with some options that I can come up with.
