Recommend books

My kids are busy with their exams these days. Just 2 more days to go, then they’ll be free until mid August inshaAllah. Thankfully they love to read…so I was thinking of getting some nice literature for them to read over the summer months. I’ve got plenty for my daughter who is 6…but need suggestions for boys who are 9 n 11. So any suggestions from parents on GS, please??? :stuck_out_tongue:

lord of the rings :p

Re: Recommend books

These are the authors I would reccommend. Any of their matieral is good.

Anne Fine

Roald Dahl

Phillip Pullman

Terry Pratchett

Rick Riordan - Percy Jackson series

J K Rowling

If your boys like picture books, I would reccommend Shaun Tan, he's an Austrailian author and ilustrator and VERY good for capturing imaginations.

Just remembered;

Dav Pilkey

Eoin Colfer

Horrid Henry books - although im a little bored of these.

Re: Recommend books

O yess....get them the harry potter series this vacation if they havent read it yet...they will simply love it :)

Maybe you can even ask their teacher for suggestions for summer reading

Re: Recommend books

The Hobbit

"The Hardy Boys" series

Re: Recommend books

thanks all... i sort of forgot abt this thread n now today the exams are over i recalled it. :)

They have read HP from cover to cover...Roald Dahl was read long ago...

Hassaan was mentioning Eoin Colfer's Airman (i think ) the other day....haven't read that. Horrid Henry has been a favourite of my younger son...but i'm quite relieved now as he is past that stage.

I sneaked in their book shelf the other day and read two books...'the secret garden' and 'Heidi' ...I liked both of 'em sooooo much...really enjoyed. :) But I believe they are now more into thrillers....

I'll check the other authors you guys suggested. Thanks again.

Re: Recommend books

The Percy Jackson books are reminiscent of Harry Potter, so they'll probably enjoy them. Great suggestions!

Re: Recommend books

I would go down the Percy Jackson/Phillip Pullman and Eoin Colfer route if they have done RD, HP and HH.

If they are avid RD fans, get the Audio CD set, They are retold by some very talented actors, mostly British I think, but it just makes RD stories come alive. I love reading stories and I do believe I am very good at it, but the guy who does the voice for James and the Giant Peach in the RD Audio collection is simply AMAZING! He really tells the story as I always imagined it would sound. It's fab! Book People usually have very good offers on. I think they only post within the U.K though. May need to check that.
