BTW Hareem, you need to search in the self help section, not in the how to appear cheesy section.

Re: Recommend a book to a guppy/guppan
Inshallah will read it..
http://www.thesufi.com/sufi_ebooks/Sufism%20ebooks%20BEST%20COLLECTION/The_Sufis_-_Idries_Shah.pdf
EDIT: Just went through few initial pages, looks like a good book, although not discussing actual sufiism but rather about sufis whom ibn juzi never liked.
Thank you for the book.

The Memory Book by Rowan Coleman for @redvelvet
Novels by Amy Tan...if you haven't read them already. Start with earlier works like The Joy Luck Club, The Bonesetter's Daughter etc etc.
The Women of Brewster Place by Gloria Naylor
Dark Places by Gillian Flynn (dark mystery)
The Sugar Queen...by Sarah Addison Allen (a more light and airy read)
Re: Recommend a book to a guppy/guppan

The Remarkable Structure of the Qur’an. | Many Prophets, One Message
Re: Recommend a book to a guppy/guppan
Great recommends…but Gillian Flynn? Are you sure about that? :bummer: You know how I felt about Gone Girl, right?
Re: Recommend a book to a guppy/guppan
Thanks for suggestion. but to me, the problem with sufism remains. take the example of omar khayam sufi from that book. just like Sufis argue that music is ok if it does not make you do sins, similarly they would have argument that to drink wine is ok as long as it does not make you do sin. In reality, some Sufis do have argument for wine. Its actually near to shirk IMO that you disregard the Hikmah of Allah(s.w.t) and give preference to your own understanding.
Just skimmed some chapters, will read in details in sha Allah.
Re: Recommend a book to a guppy/guppan
I haven’t read Gone Girl. Perhaps you’ll like Dark Places better. I’ll give you a brief synopsis and you can decide if you want to read it or pass on it. It’s about a woman in her early 30s who received a trust fund after her family was brutally massacred when she was just a little girl. The person convicted of the massacre was her brother, although there is a group of people who believe that he is innocent. Her once hefty trust fund is dwindling and to remedy this she agrees to help someone reinvestigate the murder case and her brother’s conviction.
Re: Recommend a book to a guppy/guppan
Brief synopsis? And RV?
I kid.

"Ishrab sharabul hub". Wine in Sufic poetry most often refers to the metaphoric wine of love.

The New Digital Age for @Southie
Re: Recommend a book to a guppy/guppan
I just googled online and it turns out that Dark Places has been turned into a movie as well. It stars Charlize Theron and will be releasing this year.

Thank you. I’ll read it soon.

Re: Recommend a book to a guppy/guppan
All the books in Agatha Raisin series for @Muzna
I'm afraid that hareem pictures me as the "disliked old biddy" in this.....
[quote]
Reports of a haunted house soon have Agatha snooping around, but it turns out the victim is a universally disliked old biddy and someone is playing a practical joke. And then the old lady is murdered – but for Agatha, solving a crime is much more fun than hunting a ghost. Very soon she’s up to her usual tricks, involving the villagers, local police, and, of course, her handsome new neighbour…Complete and unabridged.

Of course not. I think "disliked old biddy" is referring to the victim and not to Agatha.
Agatha Raisin is one of my favourite characters. She's witty, funny, intelligent, and smartask lady.
