The only onion-less dish I know is kidney beans curry.
Fry some ginger/garlic paste. Add spices and tomatoes. Bhoon a little, cover and let tomatoes cook. After oil seperates, add beans and some water. Let it cook on medium heat, only takes about half an hour.
CB, let me know how it turned out. Every time I have nothing else to cook I open up a couple cans of kidney beans, boil some rice and serve with salad and mint chutney. Makes a delicious meal.
You can put onions in fridge for sometime, won't get any tears.
Also saw this tip on tv to prevent tears...and it did work..if you dont have time to put em in the fridge just hold a steel spoon in your mouth whilst cutting onion.
Masi thats pure torture yaar holding a spoon in the mouth while cutting onions
I think if you put the sliced onions into cold water immediately after cutting them, they wont get to the eyes , but mine are a bit too sensitive , I cry buckets when i am doing the onions
funguy is right....I always have a pack of fried onions in the cupboard.
you can also make qorma without raw onions.
I have the same problem....I cry buckets when chopping them.....putting them in the fridge helps.
I will have to try the spoon trick. Anyone know why that works?
wow , thanks guys … sweetu i will go look for it …
Muzna , yesterday i did the water trick , it worked fine … I reckon you try that , its easier then the spoon thingy ..
Just have some cold water ready in a bowl , and dip the onions ASAP into the cold water as soon as you peel them, then as you slice/chop onions , add then into the water again … drain and use ..
