recipes for suji ka halwa plz...

Aslamualikum,
any1 know the proper recipe for suji ka halwa, normally we have for halwa puri.

I have to double check exact quantitiy of water/sugar....sujee...acutally what i use that's easier is this thing called "Farina" its cream of wheat cereal, rather instant and cooks quickly.

Take few teaspoons oil and once hot add 1 cup dry Farina to it. Saute rapidly until it starts to get light brown to medium brown.

On the side boil 2 cups water & 1 cup sugar to a boil and turn off heat. Add the liquid to the lightly brown farina and cook on medium heat till water is absorbed and desired consistency. I will double check amount of water/sugar. It comes out pretty good.

ingredients
2 cup sooji
1 cup water
1/2 cup dessicated coconut
pinch of orange edible food color
1 cup sugar
1/2 butter
6 seeded cardamoms
Nan kulchey

method
in a non stick pan, heat up the butter.
mix sooji and sugar in a bowl. gradually pour the dry mix into the heating butter. keep stirring. add some water. lower the stove. keep stirring until sooji begins to leave the sides of the non stick pan. add cardamoms. mix the pinch of edible orange color in 2 tbps of water.
add in the colored water and do not stop stirring. keep the hevla on slow heat.
the consistency will be thickening. When color turns to a darker tone than when began cooking the hevla, turn the stove off.
Remove helva in a corning ware dish and cool a bit.
garnish with dessicated coconut.
serve with warmed up kulchey.
enjoy!

I make soojii porridge for my daughter and I eat some of it too yumm!

1 tsp butter
1 1/2 tablespoon sooji
1 tsp sugar (or acc. to taste)
1 glass milk.
Pinch cardamom powder
saffron
nutmeg (optional)

In heavy based pan heat butter and sooji till sooji turns light brown.
Add milk, sugar, cardamom saffron and nutmeg.
Bring to boil and reduce heat and simmer for about 10 mins.
Serve immediately as the more it stays, it will thicken

As I have it like porridge, the consistency is not as thick as halwa, but I think if you continue heating, the consistency will be thicker. Oh and for halwa, I would use ghee instead of butter...and sprinkle almond/pistachio thin sliced to serve.
