Re: recipes for students

I think the only ingredients you need to keep at all times in your room or fridge are :

  • Salt
  • Red chilli powder
  • onion
  • Garlic

Occasionally you can cook up things with these basic ingredients...
On days that you are pretty gareeb, you can cook up Daal along with boiled rice ...

For that just boil the daal in one glass water .. when boiled and cooked throughly add in the following mixture:
In a frying pan, add two tablespoons oil, one or two cloves of garlic , then tomatoes and start bhunoing them ... then add the spices , salt and red chilli powder ... when oil seperates , add this in the daal .. and cook it on low heat for 10 minutes ..

Meanwhile boil some rice as well and you are done ... easy 20 minutes main daal ready recipe for you :@:

Re: recipes for students

here's another one for days when your pocket is full ... buy chicken, green chillies and fresh corriander ...

Heat up oil, add in chicken pieces .. and start frying it ... after about 15 minutes add in the garlic .. keep bhuno'ing until chicken is almost done .. at this stage .. add in loads of very finely cut tomatos or tomato paste .. almost 2 cups full for half KG chicken ... chop green chillies and add to the salan .. salt as well ... cover and let it all cook on low heat .. after 10 minutes you will see the tomatoes reduced and oil separated .. add in corriander .. and enjoy with naans

Re: recipes for students

I went to the halal butcher man shop and bought half a kg of chicken for £1.88 does that sound okay/average price for chicken?

Re: recipes for students

inspiron , i would suggest you take a little blender with you to the accomodation ... there are these tiny ones available , blieve me they will make your cooking so much more easier ...

heres a tip that will always help you ... specially with all the vegie cooking :

Do the basic masala ( fry onions, add garlic, then add the vegetable in ) cover the lid and let it cook on low heat ... usually vegies take about 20 minutes to get done properly ... you dont need water coz they usually release their own water as well ... when vegies are done almost 75% add in chopped tomatoes or tomato paste ... and add potatoes as well if you are using them for example with gobi or carrots etc ...

after about 10 minutes or as soon as potatoes get done , if you have corriander , add that if not , koi gul nai jut enjoy student special khana :@:
