Recent violence and Foreign Investment [split from: Pakistan plans all-out war]

Re: Recent violence and Foreign Investment [split from: Pakistan plans all-out war]

Because she is a real politician. In politics, there are NO PERMANENT FRIENDS, NO PERMANENT ENEMIES, only permanent is the Interest.

Re: Pakistan plans all-out war on militants

Money is driving force but money is not the only thing you need to develop as a country as a society, otherwise Saudi Arabia, UAE, Kuwait should be the top-notch societies.

[quote]
because they have a good solid economic base from which they are generating capital
[/quote]

and this generated money is removing corruption, providing justice, upholding law and order, providing check and balance in gov't decisions etc... right?

[quote]
so please tell me, what ideas do you have to develop the society?
[/quote]

I am not going to provide ideas like develop a housing scheme and subsidise it etc.... The ideas to establish check and balance, accountability, law and order enforcement are already out there, only if there is someone sincere and honest enough to act on them.

Re: Pakistan plans all-out war on militants

I have told you before and I will tell you again, when elders are talking then don't poke your nose with idiot posts, get out and post in Cafe` where you belong.

Re: Pakistan plans all-out war on militants

What I meant is don't just look at "forex reserves" or "GDP growth".

Re: Recent violence and Foreign Investment [split from: Pakistan plans all-out war]

sigh So basically if the person is acceptable to you and if the people elect them then its a democracy. What standards.

Captain the best course of action is to ignore Aalsi. He/she mainly posts to annoy and irritate. Why take his/her comments seriously?

Re: Pakistan plans all-out war on militants

Corruption has existed as long as Pakistan has existed and so Musharraf cannot be blamed for this because it has become part of the Pakistani psyche

As for uncontrolled Terrorism. He came to power in 1999, and 9/11 happened, and thus the entire border area with Afghanistan is radicalized.

Lal Masjid is the point I agree with you. He should have acted immediately and taken them out but also some say that he held off the attack for 6 months to avoid bloodshed and end this problem peacefully

Musharraf is the one who created this 80 channels in Pakistan and established a free media. What he tried to do to shut down GEO was wrong but ultimately he was unable to do so. That is not a sign of a dictator when he cannot even shut down a TV Channel.

As for The Chief Justice. That was a blunder. But in reality, Mush wanted an investigation, he did not remove the Chief Justice. People just galvanized around the Chief Justice because they saw him as the anti-musharraf

Re: Recent violence and Foreign Investment [split from: Pakistan plans all-out war]

That is the universal rule. These are the generally accepted standards by democratic developed and developig countries.

Re: Recent violence and Foreign Investment [split from: Pakistan plans all-out war]

Actually it isn't. Just because you are elected by the people does not make it a democracy. Remember in Pakistan people's votes are actively bought as in the case of the Bhutto legacy.

Re: Recent violence and Foreign Investment [split from: Pakistan plans all-out war]

As far as I know, investment that has come into Pakistan has taken the form of safe investments... Investments that dont offer a lot of risk. So I think that will continue, the investment in telecom, banks, real estate... But big investments that provide actual employment are a long way off.

Re: Recent violence and Foreign Investment [split from: Pakistan plans all-out war]

I am not at liberty to give more information, but do wait until the early months of 2008. You would be more than a little surprised at the kind of investments and tech coming in. :) It is not going to be just in Pakistan, but across SOuth Asia from this one group alone. Hint: The field is high tech agricultural equipment. Isn;t agriculture an industry that employs something like 60% of the population across South Asia?

Re: Pakistan plans all-out war on militants

Yes corruption has existed even before Pakistan existed, but in this regime it is only becoming official, criminals are acknowledged and made part of the government, future dacoity and destruction of constitution is guaranteed. May be there are examples of such in other parts of world but not in history of this land.

Re: Recent violence and Foreign Investment [split from: Pakistan plans all-out war]

^^ but is it as bad as it was with nawaz and benazir?

Re: Recent violence and Foreign Investment [split from: Pakistan plans all-out war]

And how is it anything lesser than in their days?

Re: Recent violence and Foreign Investment [split from: Pakistan plans all-out war]

I'm no analyst, and i agree with almost all of you in one sense or the other. However, i think the first and foremost thing that has to change is the MENTALITY. People living outside of Pak seem to be more patriotic of the country from the heart, than ppl living there. This is sad. I think the foundation is still there and intact but people (leaders) need to stop taking short cuts and follow procedure and quit amending constitution to their benefit for the time being. Once we have people that truly want to serve the country and cater to the public, all else will fix itself and follow. It's like the murphy's law, one mistake led to another and another, now pakistan's a mountain of misdeeds. it can still be reverted and regain the prime it was founded for, only if we get people moving in the right direction with the true mindset.....
Some things that can help this are: Education, social work, jobs on merit and not reference, and a few other things. Poverty leads to terrorism because people lose hope in the 'right' path and have to seek other ways to scrape the dollar to feed the family. At this point the desperation rules the logic, and that one wrong turn....one mistake....leads to the mess the paki society is in now. Cure the illness from within!
I don't mean to contradict any of you....i just thought i'd toss in my two cents because i feel for the nation too...i hope and pray it can diminish this menace of internal terror. amen!

Re: Recent violence and Foreign Investment [split from: Pakistan plans all-out war]

its not

but due to a vibrant economy, the corruption can be absorbed and not effect the economy

india has more corruption than pakistan but due to its large economy, its corruption is absorbed

Re: Recent violence and Foreign Investment [split from: Pakistan plans all-out war]

I am not talking about corruption at street level by police, traffic police or civic institutions here. I am talking about corruption at higher levels, forgiving/negotiations with known criminals is a crime not seen before... Mushy is just trying to break/create-new records.

Re: Recent violence and Foreign Investment [split from: Pakistan plans all-out war]

No it was not during ZAB era. People voted him out of shear love for him. Still people can die for him. It was NS who first introduced purchasing of votes, kidnapping all Mps to Changa Manga in a bus. Get your record corrected.

Re: Recent violence and Foreign Investment [split from: Pakistan plans all-out war]

and which criminals has Musharraf been associated with?

Re: Recent violence and Foreign Investment [split from: Pakistan plans all-out war]

Re: Recent violence and Foreign Investment [split from: Pakistan plans all-out war]
