Naxalites seize train in Jharkhand
Armed activists of the CPI (Maoist) on Monday night captured a train, carrying more than 100 passengers, and beat up the driver near the Heyagarha station in Jharkhand’s Latehar district, about 100 km from here. However, quoting a railway official, AP reported that between 200 and 250 passengers were missing. The naxalites roughed up the driver and cut off the communication system, snatching the walkie-talkie from the guard, police sources said. However, all passengers were said to be safe, General Railway Police spokesman S.R. Gandhi said. The naxalites stopped the train, going from Barkakhana in Jharkhand to Mughalsarai in Uttar Pradesh, close to a thick jungle between the Heyagarha and Kumudi stations, around 7.30 p.m. in protest against the killing of one of their comrades in an encounter in Palamau district on March 3, Inspector-General of Police G.C. Verma said.
