Rebels kills 12 in eastern India

Terrible news. I did not know these communist rebels were still around, and engaged in these sort of acts.

Land mine explosion kills 12 in eastern India

Suspected communist rebels detonated a land mine under a passing police vehicle in eastern India on Monday, killing 10 officers and two civilians, police said. The attack took place in hilly terrain in Rohtas district, 125 miles west of Patna, the capital of the eastern Indian state of Bihar, said Ritu Raj, the deputy inspector-general of police. The civilians killed were the driver of the vehicle and a village guard, Raj said.

Raj said militants of the outlawed Maoist Communist Center were suspected in the attack since the area is their stronghold. Other details were not immediately available. The rebels work closely with the People’s War Group, another guerrilla group, and are active in five southern and eastern states. They are also suspected of having close links with Nepal’s communist rebels. More than 6,000 people have been killed since the rebels, inspired by Chinese revolutionary leader Mao Zedong, began fighting in 1981. The insurgents mostly target rich landowners and police.

Very sad indeed, but Naxalites and communists are a reality in India.
One of my teacher's used to say to me,

"When reformation does'nt start from the top, then revolution starts from the bottom"

^ I thought it starts from ISI :hehe:

I am speaking about Revolution -- Not Terrorism.

Do you believe there is a real possibility that communists/naxalites could come to power in such states through such terrorist attacks?

The naxalites / Communists can never come to power through such terrorist attack. But, I can say that the administration is also not a holy cow. People in rural India are really great. I have seen people who lost everything in floods (food, houses etc) and they had nothing to eat for several days. Their children were dying and they are so law abiding, that they were just praying God to help them. Few of them join the naxalite movement.

What angers me is that the state government, could not even distribute the thousands of tonnes of rice it had (which the centre had allotted) and eventually was spoiled. Now, what will the uneducated adivasis do ?. If they go to the govt. officials to ask for their allotted quota of rice, these Bas***** demand bribes. Or the rice is sold off in open market. The naxalites demand social justice through land reforms and attack and damage the govt. infrastructure (thereby pushing the villages more into backwardness) for their purpose. The Majority (say 80%) are have no problem and are indifferent to their woes.

Infact there is so much mistrust among the naxalites and the police, that the chain of violence is continuous. If naxalites are caught, then they are eventually killed in so called "Fake" encounters. The naxalites on the other hand, try their best by blasting the police vehicles. Violence begets violence.... This is an unending cycle.
