Has anyone here suffered from a whiplash, neck or back injury/problems … how long did it take for you to recover. Also, if anyone knows of any dua’s for sehatyaabi please share with me.
Thanks.
Re: Rear-end collision and whiplash.....
Have you considered seeing a different neurologist? The thing with nerves is this. Nerves can cause referral of pain. For example, the phrenic nerve is responsible for the diaphragm, but if its injured, it can also cause referral of pain to your shoulder. Eventhough it technically has nothing to do with your shoulder.
I dont know if its a sign from Allah or not, but you should take your health seriously. When doctors give you medication, they give it for a reason usually, to help you. My suggestion is to continue seeing the physical therapist, they are there to assist you.
Recovery time for these incidents vary depending on the individual, but again, I'd stick to the physical therapist.

Munni: I am considering a second opinion. Yeah, i was told the same about nerves and also read it too... you a med student??

Re: Rear-end collision and whiplash.....
Farat, you should definitely seek second opinion. Like, Munni said take care of yourself. Your health should be a priority. I dont' think Allah is punishing you. He is very Merciful!
Offer your prayers and take your medicines. Rest and try to be active. Have a positive outlook on things. You will feel better soon!
Also, try reciting Sura Ya'Sin everyday. Good Luck.
Re: Rear-end collision and whiplash.....
Faryaat, firstly u need to get this problem sorted as quick as possible, because when the body feels pain u tend to position urself in the position of least pain, which isn't the normal position, and if left for a long time u could cause more damage and recovery time becomes a lot longer (very lot longer). ure problem sounds not as bad as my experience.
I had damaged my lower disc (3rd from bottom), the jelly like material within the disc had bulged out and was putting pressure on a nerve, the first thing i felt was during the early hours(5am), having gone too sleep fine, i woke up with the most painful feeling i had ever felt in my life, it took me half an hour to get from my bedroom to the living room (2 flights of stairs), excrutiating pain throughout, i lay on the sofa 8/9 hours a day for 2 weeks before i could walk, and even then for only very short distances. The pain i felt went from lower back throughout my right thigh up to the knee, if i sneezed or coughed my right leg would retract uncontrollably and i'd be in excrutiating pain for 2 to 3 hours, me being an idiot (male pride an all that), left it to heal itself......for 18 months, throughout which time i managed to aggitate the same injury a few times, anyway, when i finally went to see the doctor (as it wasn't getting any better), he referred me to a physiotherapist, during the first session the therapist put me infront of a full length mirror and it was very clear that my spine (over time) had changed shape, because i felt pain in my leg, i'd automatically walk with my heel off the ground, on the front of my foot as this would reduce the pain as my nerve was streched less, so my hip had pushed out to the side to compensated the now 'taller' right leg, anyway after 5 sessions i was discharched with certain exercises i must perform 3-5 times a day, and just as with u, i also didn't do them, well not as much as i was supposed to, see my problem was after i'd done the first set, i'd be in pain for hours as the exercises would stretch the nerve and irritate it, doing it 3 or 5 times a day was impossible (pain/college etc), so i stopped all together and lived with the disability for another 3 years, as i was convinced the damage was irrepairable, that was untill a family member convinced me to book a session with a chiropractor who work in the private sector only, i've been having sessions for over 6 months now(becus i ignored the injury for 5 years), it's expensive (£26/every 10 min session) but worth every penny, chiropractors specialise in the spine/nervous system and told me the exercises shown by the physiotherapist where causing more damage as they had not diagnosed the problem correctly, with the new treatment, in 6 months iv'e gone from being able too walk for short distances in pain to being almost normal, although my back is very weak, my flexability has improved so much.
so my advise too u is that u should book in with a chiropractor as they should be the first people u contact for advise/treatment for spinal injuries, no disrespect to physiotherapists but they don't know enough to treat spinal problems effectively,as in my case, u need to see a specialist, and don't prolong it, i'm sure a chiropractor can treat ure problem very quickly as ure's happened in an accident were as i had dammaged my disc over time, it may just be that u need a spinal adjustment(it's like a firm massage), which will be done in 1 session but may need follow up sessions.
So faryaat, don't do as i did, and leave it, it only gets worse, go and see a chiropractor, u'll thank me, trust me , if they can vastly improve my condition, they can easily fix u.
i wish u well anyway.
Re: Rear-end collision and whiplash.....
as for how long it takes to recover, it depends on how quick u treat it, with me, like most back injuries, u never totally recover, there's always going to be a weakness.
But like i said before, from what i've talked about with my chiropractor, ure injury sounds like it needs a spinal adjustment, it could be as simple as that in which case u could recover very quickly, the problem could be lower in ure back, but u feel it in the neck. Just go and see a chiropractor, forget physio and all the rest, the'll sort u out.
Re: Rear-end collision and whiplash.....
Ouch !!!!!!! It kills. It took us a few weeks before me and hubby fully recovered. But it is the worse pain in the world. We got rear-ended by an old lady in Arizona.
Re: Rear-end collision and whiplash.....
I sufferred a slight case in an accident. I was in the back seat, but it healed in about a week or so.
Re: Rear-end collision and whiplash.....
i fell down stairs at my sister's house last year....i was in a bed for a week...it turned out i have a slipped disc...went to a neurologist (since i was having tingly feelings on my left leg and arm)...but neurologist (who is supposebly the best in toronto, and took me 5 months to get an appt), said only physiotherapy would only work....i didnt go to physiotherapy, but started excersing/getting more active.....and one day i was lifting a heavy object, and agian my back gave out and again i was in bed for a week....so now i learned my lessson: dont carry heavy things and be more active.....
