Real vs Artificial or Goldplated Jewelry

Hi guys!

So what are your thoughts on real precious metals vs goldplated jewelry?? Is there always a distinct difference in visible appearance? I was hoping to get a goldplated set to save (a LOT) on costs, but i don’t see many online shops that carry anything nice. well i’ve seen nice looking sets but up close they just look really cheaply made. Is this always going to be the case?? what do you guys recommend for bridal jewelry shopping? I won’t be able to go overseas so my only choices are to have someone shop for me from abroad or just shop online. Any advice at all would be really really nice!

Re: Real vs Artificial or Goldplated Jewelry

where do you live? I know there are some places in Toronto that sell gold plated jewellery, but they use real stones, so it gives the set a more real look.

check out Romika Jewellers on line, she has some good stuff.

thank you saima! she does have some nice sets. do you know if she works with clients to customize the bridal sets? say color, stones, etc.? thanks!

Re: Real vs Artificial or Goldplated Jewelry

I have only been to her store once, however, I do believe that she does custom made sets, so you can change the stones in the design.

also, not sure where you are located, but she has better stuff in her store than she does online, so you may want to ask her for more pictures. I think your best bet is to email her, and ask some questions.

Re: Real vs Artificial or Goldplated Jewelry

Honestly, it depends how often you will wear them. Real jewellery is always best, it's an investment and something you can pass down to your own children when the time comes. Artificial jewellery can and will darken over time and the craftsmanship isn't very good. You'll end up having to shell out money to get them re-polished constantly. But if you're not much of a jewellery person, then it doesnt make sense to spend lakhs on jewellery you'll barely wear, especially with the price of gold nowadays.
