I need a flower for my hair during reception (dupatta will NOT be on the head). I’m thinking tiger lillies.
My hair person said she wants real flowers…she said she’ll hair spray the heck out of it, and it will stay (ie. not wilt). I’ve never done this. I just wanted to see if any of you have and if that really works.
The last thing I want is wilted flowers on my hair in the middle of my reception. Does the hair spray trick really work?
it does! long term, that’s how you can preserve flowers too. i sprayed my wedding bouquet so its dried super well into a little work of art.
i dunno about tiger lilies though. do a trial because the scale of the flowers should be in balance with your face, hair, jewellery etc. and tiger lilies are big.
Ooohhh…I didn’t realize tiger lillies were huge. What about orange hibiscus? Below is a picture of the “concept” for my hair. My flower lady is 0 help.
Any other orange flowers you I could look into for my hair? The shade of orange on my lehenga is identical to MAC Morange lipstick (that’s also my lippie for reception).
and oh yeah, your hairdresser is right- real flower always. fake ones only work in black or white, i find. coloured fake flowers can look tacky very quickly. not so with real flowers.
I agree with SGC on that one, the tiger lilies might be too bulky? Although take it along with you and try it I suppose.
I tried googling orange flowers, the closest thing I came to lilies in shape but smaller was something called "Hippeastrum Amaryllis", no idea what the common name is though!
You guys are awesome! I have 2 weeks to go…so no more time for trials. (I did my MU/hair trial almost 2 months ago).
Hair will be curled and pinned up…very similar to what’s on the picture I posted above. The updo just won’t be as tight (hopefully this makes sense). Flower will be on the back…kinda on one side but not on the side of face (hope this makes sense too!).
Yep, hairdresses also said fake will look tacky. My lehenga is silver/white with orange accents. All my jewelry is silver with white stones. That’s why hairdresser recommended orange flowers to balance out all the white/silver.
I sent that hair pic to my decor/flower lady 3 WEEKS to go! Just this morning after I e-mailed me, she tells me there aren’t many orange flowers and she frigging wants to spray paint it! I’m also having other issues with her so in general…I’m in a total freak out mode right now.
I like the ranunculas! I’ll check with her to see if she can get those.
^ why don't you visit a florist and see what is available first hand so there are no surprises on the day of. maybe you can pick up the flowers yourself on your way to your appointment or have them delivered to the salon? its probably the best way, honestly. spray painting... erm... no?

LOL....yea, it's a good thing she told me about her spray painting idea b/c in person, I may have actually punched her.
I think I may just have to do that and pick it up myself. I just got off the phone with her and she's doing nothing much causing my blood pressure to go through the roof.
Paheli, your florist sounds shady...lol...I do know that florists used to dye flowers by placing their stems in vases of the color they wanted to achieve, but with a natural shade like orange, I don't see why it would be so hard to find a flower that worked. At least for this part of the flowers, maybe you should find a different florist to work with?
I think the other guppans have posted loads of gorgeous ideas, I can't be more help than them. I do want to say though, Morange is an amazing colour, you are so gutsy to wear it, you've got to come back and tell us how it all came together!
Firstly, you gals are amazing! :) You have no idea how much I appreciate all the ideas, tips, and moral support. :)
AsiyaAainaBridal: Umm....yes I've had it with my florist/decor lady. She's a frigging nutcase. Ha...yea...even my MU person said she was happy I'm willing to wear Morange since most other brides wouldn't do it...lol. I did my MU trial and was happy with how everything came together. So let's see... :)
A few days ago, a friend and I went "flower hunting" and found these gorgeous orange roses with hints of yellow. With 6 days to go until the wedding....I decided to go with these. Unfortunately I don't have the time or energy to research this any more. But I'm happy with my choice. I think (and hope!) it turns out well. :)
