hi all. am new here. just wanted to know if anyone here has gone to a psychic for a reading and whether its permissible in islam?

but isnt haram to know your future and not the present? i would have thought that muslim psychics are there to guide and help..give you a nudge in the right direction? what about those ppl who have been spiritually enlightened ..ie. jinns who help them solve issues/problems..is that too not permissible in islam?
im not against whats not permissible but the reason why i have written this is that i know of some muslim friends who do that and they seem to get their everyday matters resolved with so much ease. a friend of mine whose partner cheated on her was broken down after being with him for 2yrs didnt understand how it could all go wrong. so she went to this psychic (who is a muslim ) and he helped her understand her partner better. she was thereafter at much ease.

Been tempted many times but I have managed to remember God on such occasions and tell myself, "The reason I dont know it is definitely cz something brilliant is gonna happen and only God is all knowing and is aware of my case." It gives me great amount of satisfaction. And the next day I encounter something good whic helps me understand things.

why would you want to know the 'present', Serena? Isnt it right in front of you? Just understand it this way. Some things which you do not know.... you are better off not knowing them. Trust me on this.

Islam says its prohibited....
and a person who believes in such things (magic, future forecasting and all) is out of the folds of Islam....
so a person who practices it may call himself a muslim, but in reality he isnt a muslim....

hate to break it to you, but he aint muslim.
any how, thenewwannab, what is prohibited in islam is prohibited and anyone calling it halal is kafir. it is not not a mullah declaring a fatwa, it is the basic principle of islam. Halal can not be made haram and haram can not be made halal except by Allah.

there is no reason to call anyone here Kafir. Dont be judgemental of others. who are we mere mortals to judge anyone else when Allah is all Knowing. Leave it to HIM. All we can do is strive to be the best we can be.

Serena going to psychic, how can then that differenciate us from non-muslims?
if u look around (if u r in state) ull see mostly non-muslims are living in na world of insane. Couple days ago we were shown this hospice movie in our med-psyc class and were taught how to deal with death and dying ppl. Watching that movie all i could see was these ppl who were dying they were merely looking for their family's support and THATS IT!! i was llike, come on.......if any muslims were to die any time, i know for sure he/she will remember Allah (s.w.t) more than anything!

I have seen some ppl and indeed have been through it myself, that when ever we r anxious or upset about our life we tend to turn towards ppl for guidence and to make sure to ur self that yeah everything will be alright.
But, think about it, He is who made u and He will help u out no matter what. All we have to do is go on and ask Help from Allah (s.w.t). If one person's sweet and generous answer can give u tranquility then y not Allah's Who indeed promised u that if u come and ask for help, He will help.
The way I think is whenever im in need i do ask for help from Allah (s.w.t) b/c i know no matter how much i tell ppl about myself but the ONE can understand me is Allah (s.w.t)

from where did u ppl get this idea of leaving everything to HIM???
Quran and SUnnah give us guidelines to judge such things and its our duty to inform ppl…
if u just leave it to HIM, u r doing a mistake…

A R youve got me totally wrong. I was only talking about judging people...calling them this or that .. frm islamic point of view. Allah will deal with us individually and eventually we have to account for our deeds/sins. Nothing to do with laws of the courts. That is a separate issue.

i m not calling anyone in particular a kafir, but just stating the hard core fact in islamic theology that anyone who makes what is halal haram and what is haram halal is a definite KAFIR. so we can apply this rule to our selves and see if we fit in this description or not.

judging is not allowed between muslims, we dont say such and such muslim is bad because he might be better than us. but if some one prays to others besides Allah, or fights in the army of kafirs against muslims, or disbelieves in Allah, or His messenger, or claims to know the unseen, then Allah has told us to consider them Kafirs. it is not judging by our own desires but what Allah has revealed. islam is a legal definition and Allah has told us exactly what it is composed of. it is possible that some people we consider muslims are not muslim (hypocrites). but if someone does obvious action of kufr, he can be mistaken and might have some misunderstanding. so for that case we should try to explain it to him that the action he is doing is kufr. but if he rejects the islamic advice and continues his kufr action and still calls himself muslim then we must consider him kafir, otherwise we are not being just to the religion of Allah.

Its not really a concern of mine what the psychic calls himself...my local off licence is run by Muslims...doesnt mean what they do is acceptable...im not passing judgement on faith...its just it makes no difference to you or me does it...
It is prohibited...there is no doubt about that...the above have pointed that out...
Just out of curiousity though Serena...i know someone who says they can tell me my future through Tarot...iv never been tempted because to me that takes the fun out of life...life is discovery...if you knew everything that would happen wouldnt life be boring?...
as human beings we enjoy chaos and the unexpected...why would you want a psychic to ruin that for you?...
my experience is people who go to psychics dont go for genuine readings but they just want to hear good things about the future to give them a bit of a boost...im not saying you are...but still i fail to understand why anyone would want to know their future?...
