Its not a mathematical process where you can say 100 for Hajj, 5 for each salat cuz Allah swt doesn’t count how many times you hit the ground by your head, your ‘khuloos’, ‘khashoo’ and other factors are counted as well. I believe you already know answer to that question and are just playing around, I wanted to give an answer just for the heck of it.
Its not about wording - someone here mentioned there is a hadith with a particular emphasis on reading without understanding, and I'd like to find it for someone else. Like I said, captain1, I don't wish to debate the topic. Just need a reference. Thanks.
i too am waiting to see the evidence about the hadith about sawab even without understanding. unless i see it i will have hard time believing it. quran is overwhelmed with the reference to those who understand. although reading quran does have sawab, as described in hadith, but quran was actually sent down for implementation in our lives and for implementation we have to understand.
so i would assume that reading with out understanding is good, but understanding and implementing is better. i am not even a student of knowledge so cant be definitive but i think it is safe to say that a person who reads quran alot but does not implement it is worse than a person who reads it a lot less but implements as much as he can. wallah o alam
And the example of those who disbelieve, is as that of him who shouts to the (flock of sheep) that hears nothing but calls and cries. (They are) deaf, dumb and blind. So they do not understand. (Al-Baqarah 2:171)
And there is (a saving of) life for you in Al-Qisâs (the Law of Equality in punishment), O men of understanding, that you may become Al-Muttaqûn (the pious - see V.2:2). (Al-Baqarah 2:179)
Thus Allâh makes clear His Ayât (Laws) to you, in order that you may understand. (Al-Baqarah 2:242)
He grants Hikmah to whom He pleases, and he, to whom Hikmah is granted, is indeed granted abundant good. But none remember (will receive admonition) except men of understanding. (Al-Baqarah 2:269)
It is He Who has created you from a single person (Adam), and has given you a place of residing (on the earth or in your mother's wombs) and a place of storage [in the earth (in your graves) or in your father's loins]. Indeed, We have explained in detail Our revelations (this Qur'ân) for people who understand. (Al-An'am 6:98)
Even that by listening quran we get sawab so obviously when we read quran we get the reward of this..if you can go to madrasa you can also read deleted
That was his first post. Chances are that he found the thread through google and decided to register just so he can reply to this. It ok to revive an old thread that way.
BTW, to answer the original post, if reading without understanding has no sawab then no one would ever get any sawab by reciting haroof-e-muqataat because no one knows the meaning of them, SO those words must be useless (astaghfarullah) in quran cause they pass no message and you cant get a sawab from them either.
Allow me to define the definition of "reading" as was used recently by someone I was having a discussion with:
READING: reciting the words of the text without understanding
UNDERSTANDING: knowing the translation, reading the translation, comprehending the translation (translation may be basic with basic minimal outline understanding of historical context required, like information taught to children)
I have heard many Pakistanis say this: Reading the Quran (recitation without understanding) gets you sawab.
Can you please tell me what hadith says this, or where it says this in the Quran or which aalim provided this fatwa?
Thanks. I just need a background reference - I dont care to discuss it really - someone I know would like a reference and I can't find it on the net).

The actual hadith about the 10 rewards per letter is over just those letters that are not understood. Alif, Laam, Meem ... So yeah I agree ... There is so much more than benefit and reward in reading in Arabic ... It is also the key to spiritual uplifting, and good health ... These cannot be achieved by a translation.
