Now I know enough that if one is to sit down and read the Quran, the physical book, they must perform wuzu and women have to cover themselves. However, does this apply to alternate methods of reading it? Such as reading it online, or, as i’ve done, copy-pasting it from this website that gives 3 translations of one line onto Microsoft word and formatting it (i.e., taking it from list form and putting it as a paragraph) to make ti easier for me to read. So my question, woudl I need to do wuzu if I were to print out word document and take it wiht me to school?
Re: Reading Quran
Once you print it out on a paper it becomes a physical Quran, and is in no way different from any other copy of the Quran.
Re: Reading Quran
better to do wuzu but it is not a strict requirement for translation...
It is a recomemded for holding and reading Arabic Quran, as far as i know.
But also it is not that strict requirement as you can get holy quran in different electronic gadgets. Like MP3 players,CDs, DVDs etc. But doing wuzu (if you can) it is just a way to clean your body, no harm in it :)
Re: Reading Quran
You don't need to do wuzu in that case.
Re: Reading Quran
Okay so the requirements when reading Quran such as doing wuzu, covering, being clean adn pure in mind etc don't apply if/when done online... thanks :)
Re: Reading Quran
I was reading yesterday and found out that reading Quran from a piece of paper requires wuzu (Hanafi Fiqh). So, if you print out your formatted documents and take them to school with you then you do need to have wuzu.
Re: Reading Quran
Oh okay, but not if i'm reading it on my comp rite?
Re: Reading Quran
right, also you are not required if you are listening to it.
Re: Reading Quran
Ok another Q... I printed out some of it from my computer, how do i go about discarding it?
Re: Reading Quran
I searched and so far have found nothing regarding disposing off Quran.
However, as far as books and materials with sacred text (e.g. references of Quranic texts) is concerned, there are the following prescribed ways:
- bury it in a place where people don’t walk over it excessively
- put it in a flowing water, such as a canal, river or lake
- shred or burn after scratching out Allah’s name
I will continue searching about the ruling on Quran itself and post an answer if I find anything. In the meanwhile, hold on to these pages. ![]()
Re: Reading Quran
According to the Sahaba, you just burn it so that no words remain visible…
Re: Reading Quran
wasup everyone! New to this forum.
If your reading Quraan on the net or reading from a digital quraan you do not need wudhu. However, once you print it on any document then you must have wudhu.
with regards to your second point about discarding the documents once your done, as far as i know, the best idea is to hand it in to your local mosque and they will either discard of it in proper means or hand it over to some other students etc. its way easier that way! alot of mosques nowadays have libraries so your kinda doin them a favour too!
